412 Sea Island South/Bridgeport Station TransLink Accessible bullet-b.png is a Community Shuttle route operated by Coast Mountain Bus Company in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Route Details

This is an east-west circular route running in Richmond connecting Bridgeport Station and Vancouver International Airport's South Terminal and other aviation facilities along the southern end of Sea Island. Service runs every 30 minutes, increasing to every 20 minutes during peak hours. There is no service on Sundays/holidays.

Trips depart Bridgeport Station by heading south on Great Canadian Way, west on Bridgeport Road and across the Middle Arm Bridge, taking the Cessna Drive exit to access the old Airport Station. From there, it continues south on Cessna Drive to the BCIT Aerospace Technology Campus by Institutional Access Road. The route continues along Cessna Drive to take Russ Baker Way southbound, west on Inglis Drive until Inglis Drive & Airport Road South. From here, morning trips head north on Cowley Crescent to access the YVR South Terminal before returning onto Inglis Drive heading west. Afternoon trips bypass Cowley Crescent and continue on Inglis Drive. The route then turns north on Argar Drive and into the parking lot of Vector Aerospace, where it goes to the end and turns out onto Agar Drive, where the route terminates in front of the YVR Engine Testing Facility.

Return trips continue south on Agar Drive becoming Inglis Drive where the route continues east until Cowley Crescent. From here, afternoon trips head north on Cowley Crescent to access the YVR South Terminal before returning onto Inglis Drive heading west. Morning trips bypass Cowley Crescent and continue on Inglis Drive. The route continues east on Inglis Drive, then north on Russ Baker Way until turning east onto Cessna Drive and Institutional Access Road to the BCIT Aerospace Technology Campus. From BCIT, trips continue north on Cessna Drive then take the Russ Baker Way bus lane to the old Airport Station. From there, the route heads east on Miller Road taking the bus access lane onto Sea Island Way and across the Moray Bridge, then north on Great Canadian Way to Bridgeport Station.

History

  • 1940s - Service introduced as Airport running between Marpole Loop and the airport via the Sea Island Bridge
  • Late 1940s–1950 - Service numbered 71 Airport
  • Mid-to-late 1950s - Service revised to run between Sexsmith Loop and the airport instead of from Marpole Loop
  • August 1968 - Service renumbered and renamed as 70 Sea Island, connecting Sexsmith Loop and the Airport Industrial Area on the southern part of Sea Island following the completion of the new airport terminal[1]
  • July 1976 - Service revised to run during peak hours only due to low ridership and service duplication on Miller Road by the 64 No. Four Road and 65 No. Five Road
  • August 1977 - Service renumbered from 70 Sea Island to 425 Sea Island[2]
  • May 1984 - Destination sign simplification: Service renamed from 425 Sea Island to 425 Airport South/Richmond Exchange[3]
  • March 1986 - Two additional trips leaving from Richmond Exchange in the morning extended from the Airport South terminus to Okanagan Helicopters[4]
  • September 1993 - Eastbound trips revised to route via Cessna Drive[5]
  • September 1997 - Introduction of select trips starting from Sexsmith Park & Ride instead of Richmond Exchange[6]
  • August 2001 - Service revised to operate as 425 Airport South/Airport Station, with frequency increased from every hour to every 30 minutes. Service to Richmond Exchange (during PM peak) or Sexsmith Park and Ride (during AM peak) discontinued;[7][8] service change deferred from April due to transit strike[9]
  • April 2004 - Service revised to operate as C92 Sea Island South/Airport Station with Community Shuttles
  • September 2006 - Westbound afternoon trips revised to bypass Cowley Crescent and the South Terminal
  • September 2007 - Route revised to bring service to the newly opened BCIT Aerospace Technology Campus[10]
  • September 2009 - Service extended from Airport Station to Bridgeport Station following the opening of the Canada Line. Midday and Saturday service introduced. Discontinuation of the weekday morning trip terminating at YVR South Terminal and two South Terminal short-turn trips that formerly returned to Airport Station revised to terminate at South Terminal
  • September 2010 - Conventional bus service introduced for peak hour trips.[11] Two morning short-turn trips that terminated at South Terminal revised to travel the full route
  • September 2016 - Off-peak hour shuttle operations moved to Hamilton Transit Centre as part of a mass re-organization involving the closure of Oakridge Transit Centre
  • May 2017 - Service proposed to be discontinued due to low ridership and service duplication by a YVR-operated shuttle service[12]
  • April 2018 - Service cancellation proposal reverted following public consultations[13]
  • September 2018 - Community Shuttle branding dissolved: Route renumbered from C92 to 412 with no changes in routing or frequency[14]
