History
This series replaced the remaining 2000–2001 Orion V units due for retirement. This order is the second for TransLink, following an order of 32 units in 2019 and was an option off the initial 32-unit order and the delivery schedule was originally scheduled for late 2020.[1] However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the target delivery timeline was tentatively pushed to Q2 2021[2] and later revised to August–November 2021,[3] due to a global shipping and logistics shortage. The first units were completed in late 2021 and began arriving at Prevost's Richmond facility for pre-delivery inspection in December.
Issues discovered during delivery, such as water leaking into the interior, have created additional delays. TransLink and Alexander Dennis's third-party servicing partners work to address all issues before the units enter revenue service. Because of this, various units have been shuffling between Vancouver Island, Prevost's facility in Richmond and Richmond Transit Centre. Units began to be delivered and accepted in mid-June with units entering service in mid-September.
An error was made during the production of these units as they were delivered with fleet numbers using a font that does not conform to TransLink's specifications.
Deployment
This series is entirely based out of Richmond and can be commonly found on the following six routes:
- 301 Newton Exchange/Richmond–Brighouse Station
- 311 Scottsdale/Bridgeport Station
- 340 Scottsdale/22nd Street Station
- 351 White Rock Centre/Bridgeport Station
- 555 Port Mann Express
- 620 Tsawwassen Ferry/Bridgeport Station
Details
These units are identical to their 2019 counterparts which includes the unique positioning of the exhaust pipe on the curbside, instead of under as is the case for other North American models. This difference increases the total length of the units to 42.7 feet. However, the passenger amenity consoles such as the stop request button, the air conditioning vents and the reading lights are larger. Unlike the 2019 deckers, these units have a three-point driver's seatbelt.
The official maximum capacity is 97 passengers instead of 101, despite having the same interior layouts as their 2019 counterparts. However, all deckers in the fleet were revised to have an official maximum capacity of 97 passengers in August 2022.
Most seats are transverse, except for seven fold-up seats in the front of the lower deck in the priority seating section. The upper deck seats 57, while the lower deck seats 30.
