Route Details
This was a north-south express route connecting Steveston in Richmond and Downtown Vancouver via Airport Station, running primarily on No. 1 Road and Granville Street. Service ran during peak hours only every 10–20 minutes in the morning and every 15–30 minutes in the afternoon. In Richmond, this route supplemented portions of the 401 One Road/Garden City. This route provided a direct service between Steveston and Downtown Vancouver and also provided an alternative express service to the 98 B-Line and other Granville Street express buses, bypassing Richmond Centre. Together with the 496 Railway/Burrard Station, these two routes formed a circular service between Steveston and Downtown Vancouver, with the 491 being the western half. Through-service depended on the time of day. Morning service on the 496 Burrard Station continued as a 491 One Road and afternoon 491 Burrard Station service continued as a 496 Railway.
Northbound trips departed from Moncton Street & Bayview Street heading west on Moncton, north on No. 1 Road, east on Westminster Highway, north on Gilbert Road and across the Dinsmore Bridge, north on Russ Baker Way, and east on Cessna Drive to Airport Station. Continuing from Airport Station, trips went north on Russ Baker Way, merging onto Grant McConachie Way and across the Arthur Laing Bridge, then west on SW Marine Drive becoming Granville Street heading north and across the Granville Street Bridge, then took the Seymour Street exit and went north on Seymour, west on W. Hastings Street, and south on Burrard Street to Burrard Station.
Most morning northbound trips continued from Burrard Station and went south on Burrard Street, east on Nelson Street, and south on Howe Street to Howe & Davie Street. All afternoon northbound trips terminated at Seymour Street & Davie Street, where it continued as a 496 Railway.
Southbound trips departed from Seymour Street & Davie Street after coming off a 496 Burrard Station heading north on Seymour, west on W. Hastings Street, and south on Burrard Street to Burrard Station. Continuing from Burrard Station, trips went south on Burrard, east on Nelson Street, south on Howe Street and onto the Granville Street Bridge heading south on Granville Street becoming SW Marine Drive heading east and across the Arthur Laing Bridge heading south, taking the Russ Baker Way exit to Airport Station. Continuing from Airport Station. Trips went south on Russ Baker Way, east on Gilbert Road and across the Dinsmore Bridge, west on Westminster Highway, south on No. 1 Road, and east on Moncton Street to Moncton & No. 1 Road.
