900 Bike Bus is a bus route operated by Coast Mountain Bus Company in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Route Details
This is a north-south seasonal service running between Bridgeport Station and the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal. Service runs from late June to early September every hour on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays/holidays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with extended northbound service until approximately 11 p.m. Departures are timed to meet the Swartz Bay ferries and are also staggered to not overlap with the 620 Tsawwassen Ferry/Bridgeport Station at the ferry terminal. The 900 Bike Bus runs as a supplementary service to address and accommodate the seasonal spike in bicycle passengers on the 620 and services the same stops and travels along the same route.
As part of the TransLink Customer Experience Program, the Bike Bus is a collaboration between Coast Mountain Bus Company and TransLink's marketing department to improve cycling connections to popular destinations for cyclists. The 620 corridor is a trial and if proven successful, the Bike Bus program will be expanded to other corridors and the 900 route made a permanent seasonal summer service.[1]
Each bus is capable of carrying ten bicycles – eight inside and two outside on the bike rack – with a maximum of 18 seated passengers. BMX bikes and children's bicycles are not allowed inside the bus as the interior racks are not designed for those types of bicycles. Cyclists are given priority for boarding and each Bike Bus seats 18 passengers. Standees are not allowed and this is strictly enforced. Because of the required removal of a majority of seats and wheelchair space, the 900 Bike Bus is the only bus route in the network to not be wheelchair accessible. Baby strollers and other mobility-aid devices are also prohibited on the Bike Bus.
There are four buses set aside for the Bike Bus service: two are used for service while two are used as spares.
For the initial trial service, four Nova Bus LFS in a special Bike Bus vinyl wrap livery – units 9563, 9564, 9567 and 9576 – service the route and were retrofitted with interior bike racks in June 2022. The bike racks were removed in September 2022 and the vinyl liveries were gradually removed in September and October. For the 2023 season, unit 9546 was the first to be retrofitted for Bike Bus service, followed by units 9543–9545. The number of bikes carried by each bus increased from nine (seven inside, two outside) to ten (eight inside, two outside) in the 2024 season. The 2024 season also saw a redesign of the Bike Bus livery.

2022 season
The launch trial season in 2022 had three livery variations. 9563 and 9567 shared the same teal and purple livery while 9564 had an aqua and purple livery. 9576 received a red and pink livery. With each livery variation, the bicycle graphic was also different.

2023 season
In 2023, the coaches used were 9543–9546 for consistency and the livery variation increased to four, with each coach having its own livery. An orange and purple variation was introduced and used on coach 9545. Just like in the 2022 season, each livery variation had a different bicycle graphic. 2023 would be the last season with this livery design as a new design was introduced for the 2024 season.
