405 Cambie/Five Road is a bus route operated by Coast Mountain Bus Company in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Route Details
This is a north-south route connecting SE Marine Drive & Knight Street in Vancouver with the Riverside Industrial Park in Richmond via Richmond–Brighouse Station, with peak hour service to the Vulcan Way area. Service runs daily every 30 minutes. There is no service between Richmond–Brighouse and Riverside Industrial Park at night and all southbound trips terminate at Richmond–Brighouse Station.
Northbound trips in the morning to mid-afternoon depart Machrina Way & No. 5 Road heading east on Machrina, and north on No. 5 Road. Northbound trips in the mid-afternoon to evening depart from Machina Way & No. 5 Road heading west on Machrina, south on Horseshoe Way, north on Hammersmith Way, east on Coppersmith Way, south on Horseshoe Way, east on Machrina Way, and north on No. 5 Road. Then all northbound trips head north on No. 5 Road, west on Westminster Highway, south on Garden City Road, west on Cook Road, north on No. 3 Road, east on Lansdowne Road, north on Kwantlen Street, east on Alderbridge Way, north on No. 4 Road, east on Cambie Road, north on Viking Way, and west on Bridgeport Road. During peak hours, trips continue north instead on Viking Way, east on Vulcan Way, south on No. 6 Road, and west on Bridgeport Road. Then all trips from Bridgeport Road head north on Knight Street and across the Knight Street Bridge, then taking the SE Marine Drive exit to SE Marine Drive & Knight Street.
Southbound trips depart from SE Marine Drive & Knight Street heading west on SE Marine Drive, south on Knight Street and across the Knight Street Bridge and taking the Bridgeport Road exit. Then, trips head east on Bridgeport Road to Viking Way. During peak hours, trips head north on Viking Way, east on Vulcan Way, south on No. 6 Road, and west on Bridgeport Road. Then all trips from Bridgeport Road head south on Viking Way, west on Cambie Road, south on No. 4 Road, west on Alderbridge Way, south on Garden City Road, west on Lansdowne Road, south on No. 3 Road, east on Cook Road, north on Garden City Road, east on Westminster Highway, south on No. 5 Road and west on Machrina Way to Machina & No. 5 Road, where mid-afternoon and evening southbound trips terminate. Southbound morning to mid-afternoon trips continues west on Machrina, south on Horseshoe Way, north on Hammersmith Way, east on Coppersmith Way, south on Horseshoe Way, and east on Machrina Way to Machrina & No. 5 Road.
Nighttime trips terminate at Richmond–Brighouse Station. These trips start and end at Cook Road & No. 3 Road.
The first southbound weekday trip starts at Cook Road & No. 3 Road with no changes in routing.

History
- 1958 - Service introduced as 65 No. 5 Road, connecting Marine Drive & Fraser Street in Vancouver with Steveston Highway & No. 5 Road in Richmond, replacing portions of the 73 No. 2–5 Road in Richmond
- August 1968 - Five Road terminus revised to go via No. 5 Road, Steveston Highway, Shell Road, Williams Road and No. 5 Road[1]
- July 1976 - Service extended from Sexsmith Loop west to Vancouver International Airport and south to Ladner Exchange, replacing portions of the 71 Airport
- September 1976 - Weekday service from 11am to 6pm temporarily revised to terminate at Sexsmith Loop instead of the airport due to traffic congestion[2]
- October 1976 - Airport service resumed[3]
- August 1977 - Route renumbered from 65 to 405. Routing revised to connect with Highway 99 express routes with the opening of Massey Exchange. Relocation of a central bus exchange in Richmond from Sexsmith Loop to Richmond Centre results in service being revised to serve Sexsmith Street instead of the Loop and route alteration to connect with other services at Richmond Centre[4]
- May 1984 - Destination sign simplification: Service renamed from 405 No. Five Road to 405 Airport/Richmond Exchange/Ladner Exchange[5]
- September 1991 - Daytime service revised to terminate at Riverside Industrial Park and at Richmond Exchange. Airport service revised to run during peak hours only and service to Ladner Exchange revised to run during evenings only[6]
- September 1993 - Service to the airport and Ladner Exchange discontinued and service revised to run as 405 Five Road/Richmond Exchange, running during daytime only between Riverside Industrial Park and Richmond Exchange[7]
- October 1997 - Service extended to Riverport following completion of the Riverport Entertainment Complex.[8] Daytime service routed via Riverside Industrial Park then Riverport and evening service via Riverport then Riverside Industrial Park
- April 1998 - Service to Riverport discontinued and reverted to terminate at Machrina Way & No. 5 Road. Service to Riverport replaced by an extension of the 403[9]
- September 2000 - Operations transferred from Oakridge Transit Centre to Richmond Transit Centre
- August 2001 - Service extended from Richmond Centre to Knight Street & SE Marine Drive in Vancouver to replace the 421 Cambie Road/Richmond Exchange; service between Richmond Centre and Horseshoe Way revised to daytime only;[10] service change deferred from April due to transit strike[11]
- September 2002 - Introduction of peak hour service along Vulcan Way
- April 2005 - Discontinuation of an evening southbound Vulcan trip daily departing from Marine & Knight at 10:33 p.m. due to the change in working hours at the Canada Post distribution centre. Trip revised to go on the regular southbound routing
- September 2009 - Service increased with the introduction of the Canada Line[12]
- October 2009 - Bus bays at Richmond–Brighouse Station reorganized; southbound stop relocated from Bay 5[13]
- May 2017 - Service proposed to be extended along No. 5 Road and terminate at Bridgeport Station and to discontinue service to Richmond–Brighouse Station and Vancouver[14]
