Coast Mountain Bus Company 9277-9285
Coast Mountain Bus Company 9277–9285 are a set of nine 2007 model Orion Bus Industries V 05.501 units built in 2007–2008.
The contract for the nine units was approved and awarded to DaimlerChrysler Commercial Buses North America Ltd (DCCBNA) on March 15, 2006 to expand the highway express fleet. The total contract was valued at $3,525,273.00 or $391,697.00 per unit. Delivery was originally intended for October 2007, though the majority were delivered in 2008 due to delays. They hold the distinction of being the last Orion V model to be built for a Canadian transit system.[1]
In 2009, passenger voice-announcement and display systems by INIT were introduced. CCTV cameras were installed in 2011. Compass Card readers were gradually installed starting in late 2012 and through 2013.
Unlike their 2001 counterparts, the blue stripe below the windows on both sides curves down into a straight line instead of curving slightly downward. This batch also has the same interior amenities as the 2001 units, such as reading lights and luggage racks. However, these are the only Orions in the fleet fitted with CCTV cameras and the padding on the seats on this order is slightly less than on the 2001 units. Unlike their 2001 counterparts, the passenger windows are not tinted.
They were ordered for fleet expansion for suburban Highway 99 services connecting Downtown Vancouver and South of Fraser destinations. Initially, they were found exclusively on the following routes:
- 311 Scottsdale/Vancouver
- 351 Crescent Beach/Vancouver
- 352 Ocean Park/Vancouver
- 354 White Rock South/Vancouver
- 488 Garden City/Burrard Station
- 490 Steveston/Burrard Station
- 491 One Road/Burrard Station
- 492 Two Road/Burrard Station
- 496 Railway/Burrard Station
- 601 South Delta/Boundary Bay/Vancouver
- 602 Tsawwassen Heights/Vancouver
- 603 Beach Grove/Vancouver
- 604 English Bluff/Vancouver
- 606 Ladner Ring
- 608 Ladner Ring
Later, they also made their way onto other routes other than Highway 99 services such as:
For a period of time in the early 2010s, these units were usually running only on weekends/holidays or on weekdays on peak-hour "tripper" runs or on weekday runs that ran into the evening or late-night. This was simply due to the fact these units were in limited numbers and the probability of them appearing on certain and specific runs was limited. However, the fact that these units were the only suburban units fitted with CCTV cameras up until the procurement of Nova Bus LFS Suburbans in 2018 also played a factor in these units being assigned on runs that would run into the evening.
