Coast Mountain Bus Company 5501-5508

Coast Mountain Bus Company 5501–5508 were a set of eight General Motors T6H-4523N buses built in 1973.

These units are an amalgamation of select units from two different bus orders in 1973. 5501–5503 were part of BC Hydro Transit's 795–799 batch and 5504–5508 were part of BC Hydro Transit's 790–794, all of which were originally based out of Victoria until 1975 when they were transferred to various yards in the Lower Mainland.

Ownership of the buses transferred through four owners: BC Hydro Transit, Urban Transit Authority/Metro Transit in 1980, BC Transit in 1985 and TransLink/Coast Mountain Bus Company in 1999.

Near the end of their careers, 5506–5508 were one of the select units that ran almost exclusively on low-performing routes in New Westminster and White Rock/South Surrey and in the late 1980s to early 1990s, the seats on 5504–5508 were reupholstered from their original brown seat cushions to blue and green seat cushions. 5501–5503 were delivered in semi-suburban configuration for FastBUS service and were fitted with different seats, which remained the same throughout their lifespan.

From 1975–1996, these units were under the old fleet numbering system and numbered based on yard assignment. All units were renumbered in 1996 to their current numbers and while they formerly operated under BC Transit with Vancouver Regional Transit System, they ran with the same numbers after April 1999 when all Greater Vancouver operations split off into TransLink.
