History
These are the first units to be delivered in the new standard "blue top" livery, a revision of Sweep-R with Charcoal that replaces the silver roofline. Although the branding dates back to 2001, these are the first buses to be delivered with the ExpressBus branding (excluding the handful of 2001 Orion V coaches that received it during the launch of the 555 Port Mann Express in 2012). When the tender for this order first went out in early 2017, it was already planned that these coaches would receive the ExpressBus branding, but with the standard charcoal livery. The livery change to have a blue top was a later revision.
Like other air-conditioned buses in the fleet from 2014 onward, these units have four passenger windows that can be opened: two at the front and two at the back. However, TransLink specifications for suburban highway coaches require that coaches be equipped without windows that can be opened to allow for maximum passenger comfort during highway travel. The windows on all coaches were sealed a couple of months after they entered service.
This series was the first of three suburban bus orders to gradually replace aging 2001 Orion V units. The other two orders were the 19400 and 21400 series double-decker buses.
Deployment
This series is entirely based out of Richmond and can be commonly found on the following suburban services:
- 352 Ocean Park
- 354 White Rock South/Bridgeport Station
- 601 South Delta/Bridgeport Station
- 602 Tsawwassen Heights/Bridgeport Station
- 603 Beach Grove/Bridgeport Station
- 604 English Bluff/Bridgeport Station
- 606 Ladner Ring
- 608 Ladner Ring
From time to time depending on operational requirements, these units can also be found on any conventional bus route operated by the Richmond depot. They can also be occasionally found on other suburban routes that run with double-decker buses such as:
- 301 Newton Exchange/Brighouse Station
- 311 Scottsdale/Bridgeport Station
- 340 Scottsdale/22nd Street Station
- 351 White Rock Centre/Bridgeport Station
- 555 Port Mann Express
Details
On-board passenger amenities include air conditioning, reading lights, and luggage racks. Except for the inward-facing seats at the front of the bus, all seats have vinyl headrests integrated into the grab rails for increased seat backrest height and comfort. Unlike other Nova Bus units in the fleet, these units have four seats behind the driver's compartment on top of the wheelwell instead of only one. In this configuration, two are front-facing and two are inward-facing. Like all the other seats inside the bus, only the forward-facing seats have vinyl headrests. The inward-facing seats, however, feature a foldable footrest that is attached to the bottom of the wheelwell that passengers may use.
Similar to their Nova Bus LFS HEV counterparts in the fleet, the front forward facing flip seats feature the GrabHold safety feature designed by 4ONE in place of a stanchion or partition.
