This was a north-south circular route connecting southern Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam Station via Port Coquitlam Centre. Service ran daily every hour, increasing to every 15–30 minutes during peak hours.
Trips departed Coquitlam Station heading west on access road, north on Mariner Way becoming Johnson Street, east on Glen Drive, south on Pinetree Way, east on Lincoln Avenue, south on Westwood Street, east on Kingsway Avenue, west on Wilson Avenue, south on Mary Hill Road, east on Pitt River, Road, west on Pooley Avenue, south on Eastern Drive, and north on Western Drive to Western & Eastern. Continuing from Western & Eastern, trips went north on Western, north on Mary Hill Road, west on Wilson Avenue, north on Shaughnessy Street, east on McAllister Avenue, south on Mary Hill Road, east on Wilson Avenue, north on Kingsway Avenue, north on Westwood Street, west on Lincoln Avenue, and south on Pinetree Way becoming Lougheed Highway to Coquitlam Station.
Early morning southbound trips daily started at Port Coquitlam Centre and some early morning northbound trips started at Port Coquitlam Centre.
During peak hours, trips went via Port Coquitlam Station.
Morning southbound trips started at Port Coquitlam Station and returned as a 161 Port Coquitlam Station from Western & Eastern, bypassing Port Coquitlam Centre. The last AM peak hour trip travelled the full route to Coquitlam Station and went via both Port Coquitlam Station and Port Coquitlam Centre. Morning northbound trips started at Port Coquitlam Station and bypassed Port Coquitlam Centre.
Afternoon trips in both directions went via Port Coquitlam Centre. Some trips short-turned at Port Coquitlam Station, bypassing Port Coquitlam Centre. Two southbound trips start at Port Coquitlam Centre, one of which terminates at Port Coquitlam Centre after completing the southbound routing and went via Western, Mary Hill, McAllister, to Shaughnessy.
September 1991 - Service introduced as 161 Mary Hill/Port Coquitlam Centre to replace the Mary Hill portions of the 160 Vancouver/South Port Coquitlam[1]
February 1996 - Service between Port Coquitlam Centre and Mary Hill increased to every 30 minutes during off-peak hours Mondays–Saturdays and routing in Port Coquitlam reversed to allow for more stops to be shared with the 160 Vancouver/Port Coquitlam Station. Peak hour trips revised to service both Port Coquitlam Station and Port Coquitlam Centre[2]
September 1996 - One morning trip leaving Eastern & Western and afternoon trip leaving Port Coquitlam Centre routed via Reeve Street to service Riverside School[3]
June 1997 - Due to low ridership, three PM peak hour short-turn 161 Mary Hil trips destined for Port Coquitlam Station are discontinued[4]
October 2001 - AM peak hour service reduced from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes, with midday weekday and Saturday service reduced from every 30 minutes to every hour and all late-night service discontinued due to funding shortfall
September 2003 - Service discontinued as part of Community Shuttle service rollout in the Tri-Cities. Service simplified and replaced by portions of the C36 Port Coquitlam Station/Port Coquitlam South[5]
