Joyce–Collingwood is a SkyTrain station in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Station Details

Located at the intersection of Joyce Street and Vanness Avenue, Joyce–Collingwood Station provides access to the Collingwood area in Vancouver. The station opened as Joyce in 1985 and was renamed in 2001 to its current name. Since its opening, there has been an increase in high-density residential developments adjacent to the station.

This portion of the Expo Line follows the old BC Electric Railway Central Park Line. Joyce–Collingwood Station is located at the same location as the old Collingwood East station.

Station Upgrades

In 2016, upgrades began on the station and the first phase was finished in late 2017. The upgrades include rebuilt entrances, new roofing, glass windows replacing metal mesh screens, and improvements to the bus loop, in addition to other improvements to safety and security with improved lighting. The new east stationhouse opened on October 6, 2017. The rebuilt stationhouse has an elevator, both up and down escalators, and stained glass panel artwork created by Vancouver artist Renée Van Halm made up of 10 pieces of glass. Commercial retail space will be opening at a later date. The bike parkade opened for use on December 4, 2017.

Phase 2 of upgrade works began in early 2018. The works as part of phase 2 include continued work on platform tiling, replacement of the elevator and escalator in the west stationhouse, redesign of the west stationhouse. and other aesthetic improvements on adjacent pedestrian and bicycle paths. Bus loop upgrades are also part of the second phase which included new bus shelters and bus bays, as well as provisions for future B-Line/RapidBus service to UBC. A new bus loop at the east stationhouse opened on August 13, 2018.

From August 13, 2018, to spring 2019, the west stationhouse closed for reconstruction. Once this was completed, Vanness Avenue permanently became a one-way, westbound-only street.

From June 1, 2018, to August 17 from 9 p.m. on Fridays to the start of service on Monday every weekend, Platform 1 was closed for platform tiling replacement work. Trains travelling towards Waterfront skipped past and advanced to 29th Avenue, where passengers would board an outbound train from platform 2 to access Joyce. Work was expected to take 16 consecutive weekends, with eight weekends to complete on Platform 1 and another eight weekends on Platform 2. Work was not done on Canada Day and on nights with fireworks for the Celebration of Light. Work on Platform 2 was scheduled to begin on August 17 with trains travelling towards King George and Production Way–University skipping Joyce–Collingwood. Platform 2 tiling work finished on September 24, 2018.

On February 4, 2019, the staircase in the west stationhouse opened as an exit-only staircase. The rest of the west stationhouse opened on June 15 with the west bus loop opening on June 24. On the exterior of the west stationhouse and on the west bus loop is a public art installation by Renée Van Halm titled "Carpeting", which is a mosaic of brightly coloured geometric panels covering the pavement and walls.

Station design for the renovation was undertaken by the Office of McFarlane Biggar Architects + Designers firm based in Vancouver.

Bus Routes

The bus loop was originally located on Vanness Avenue on the west side of the station. It closed on August 13, 2018, following the completion of a new bus loop on the east side of the station and reopened on June 24, 2019, for unloading only.

Bays 1–3 are located on the west side of the station. Bays 4 and 5 are located on the east side of the station. Bay 6 is located on Joyce Street south of Vanness Avenue and Bay 7 is located on Joyce Street north of Vanness Avenue.
