This was a north-south route connecting Richmond Exchange and South Vancouver running primarily on Bridgeport Road. Service ran daily every hour, increasing to every 30 minutes during peak hours.
Northbound trips departed Richmond Exchange heading north on No. 3 Road, east on Cambie Road, north on Sexsmith Road, east on Bridgeport Road, merging onto Knight Street heading north across the Knight Street Bridge and taking the SE Marine Drive exit to its terminus at Knight & SE Marine.
During peak hours, trips went via regular route to Bridgeport Road & No. 5 Road, where trips went north on No. 5, east on Vulcan Way, south on Viking Way, west on Bridgeport Road, and north on Knight Street, where it continued its regular routing to Knight & SE Marine.
Southbound trips departed from Knight Street & SE Marine Drive heading west on SE Marine, south on Knight Street and across the Knight Street Bridge, then took the Bridgeport Road exit and went west on Bridgeport, south on Sexsmith Road, west on Cambie Road, and south on No. 3 Road to Richmond Exchange.
During peak hours, trips went via regular route, then east on Bridgeport Road after exiting off the Knight Street Bridge, north on Viking Way, west on Vulcan Way, south on No. 5 Road, and west on Bridgeport Road where it continued its regular routing to Richmond Exchange.[1]
July 1976 - Service introduced as 73 Bridgeport, running between Sexsmith Loop and Knight & Marine to replace the Bridgeport Road portions of the 69 No. Five Road–Cambie. Service during peak hours went via Vulcan Way
August 1977 - Service renumbered from 73 Bridgeport to 420 Bridgeport. Relocation of central bus exchange in Richmond from Sexsmith Loop to Richmond Centre results in service being revised to serve Sexsmith Street instead of the Loop and route alteration to connect with other services at Richmond Centre[2]
May 1984 - Destination sign simplification: Service renamed from 420 Bridgeport to 420 Bridgeport/Richmond Exchange[3]
August 2001 - Service discontinued and replaced by the 402 Bridgeport/Two Road;[4] service change deferred from April due to transit strike[5]
