301 Newton Exchange/Brighouse Station is a bus route operated by Coast Mountain Bus Company in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Route Details
This is an east-west express route connecting Richmond–Brighouse Station and Newton Exchange in Surrey. Service runs daily every 30 minutes, increasing to every 15 minutes during peak hours.
Eastbound trips depart Richmond–Brighouse Station from Saba Road & No. 3 Road heading east on Saba Road, north on Buswell Street, east on Westminster Highway, north onto Garden City Road to access Alderbridge Way heading east and then Highway 91 where Alderbridge meets Shell Road. It continues east on Highway 91 taking the Westminster Highway exit and making a stop before returning back onto Highway 91 and across the Annacis Channel, where it takes the Cliveden Avenue exit and makes another stop before returning onto Highway 91 and across the Alex Fraser Bridge. It takes the Nordel Way exit and heads east on Nordel, then east on 84 Avenue, south on Scott Road, and east on 74 Avenue to Scottsdale Exchange. Continuing from Scottsdale Exchange, the route heads east on 74 Avenue, south on 122 Street, east on 72 Avenue, and south on 136B Street, east on 71A Avenue to Newton Exchange.
Westbound trips depart Newton Exchange heading east on 71A Avenue, north on 137 Street, west on 72 Avenue, north on 122 Street, west on 74 Avenue to Scottsdale Exchange. Continuing from Scottsdale Exchange, the route continues west on 74 Avenue, north on Scott Road, west on 84 Avenue, west on Nordel Way, taking Highway 91 heading north across the Alex Fraser Bridge and taking the Cliveden Avenue exit to make a stop. The route returns onto Highway 91 and crosses the Annacis Channel and takes the Westminster Highway exit to make a stop, then returns onto Highway 91 heading west becoming Alderbridge Way, south on Garden City Road, west on Westminster Highway, south on No. 3 Road, and east on Saba Road to its terminus.

History
- Summer 2003 - Consultations begin for proposed regional service connecting Surrey and Richmond Centre.[1] The proposed routing had the following three options between Highway 91 and the airport:
- From Highway 91, via No.6 Road, Bridgeport Road, and the Airport Connector to Airport Station
- From Highway 91, via Alderbridge, Garden City, Lansdowne, No.3 Road, and the Airport Connector to Airport Station
- From Highway 91, via Alderbridge, Garden City, Cook, No.3 Road, and the Airport Connector to Airport Station
- Fall 2003 - After public consultations, the option along Cook Road was selected to be the finalized routing. The proposed service is also revised in the Delta area to operate along 84 Avenue instead of Nordel Way.[2]
- September 2004 - Service introduced connecting Airport Station and Newton Exchange[3]
- December 2005 - Western terminus relocated to Richmond Centre from Airport Station and stopping procedures revised to pickup/drop-off allowed at all stops. Service on No. 3 Road north of Richmond Centre discontinued[4]
- April 2006 - Weekday midday service increased from every hour to every 30 minutes
- September 2009 - Sunday service introduced[5][6]
- October 2009 - Bus bays relocated at Richmond–Brighouse Station; placement moved from former Bay 5 to Bay 1[7]
- April 2011 - Due to low ridership, service after 8 p.m. on weekends discontinued[8]
- April 2012 - Orion V coaches introduced to the route for added passenger comfort[9]
- May 2017 - Weekend service proposed to be increased and a new stop at No. 4 Road & Alderbridge Way proposed[10]
- April 2019 - Brighouse Station terminus revised from Anderson Road & No. 3 Road to Saba Road & No. 3 Road to improve service reliability and remove redundancy in layover routing following feedback from residents and operators
- September 2019 - Operations moved from Surrey Transit Centre to Richmond Transit Centre in preparation for the introduction of Alexander Dennis Enviro500 double-decker buses
- November 2019 - Double-decker buses introduced
- December 2019 - Eastbound routing at Brighouse Station revised to go via Saba, Buswell, and Westminster instead of Saba, Buswell, Cook, No. 3, Westminster
- September 2021 - COVID-19 service adjustment: Peak hour service reduced from every 8–12 minutes to every 15 minutes
- April 2023 - Weekend/holiday service in both directions advanced to start 30 minutes earlier, from 5:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. towards Brighouse Station and from 6:30 a.m. to 6–6:05 a.m. towards Newton Exchange
- April 2024 - Early morning Sunday/holiday frequency increased from every 30 minutes to every 20 minutes to address overcrowding and pass-ups
