This was a north-south express route connecting Steveston in Richmond and Downtown Vancouver running primarily on Highway 99 and Granville Street. Service ran during peak hours only every 30 minutes. Morning service ran towards Downtown Vancouver and afternoon service ran towards Richmond. This route provided an alternative express service to the 98 B-Line, bypassing Richmond Centre.
Northbound trips departed Moncton Street & No. 2 Road heading west on Moncton, south on No. 1 Road, west on Chatham Street, north on 4th Avenue, east on Steveston Highway, merging onto Highway 99 heading north and across the Oak Street Bridge, then west on SW Marine Drive becoming Granville Street heading north and across the Granville Street Bridge, taking the Seymour Street exit heading north on Seymour, west on W. Hastings Street, and south on Burrard Street to Burrard Station. Continuing from Burrard Station, trips went south on Burrard, east on Nelson Street, and south on Howe Street to Howe & Davie Street.
Southbound trips departed from Seymour Street & Davie Street heading north on Seymour, west on W. Hastings Street, south on Burrard Street, east on Nelson Street, south on Howe Street merging onto Granville Street and across the Granville Street Bridge, then continued south on Granville becoming SW Marine Drive, north on Hudson Street, east on W. 71st Avenue, south on Oak Street and across the Oak Street Bridge becoming Highway 99, then west on Steveston Highway, south on 4th Avenue, east on Chatham Street, south on No. 1 Road, and east on Moncton Street to Moncton & No. 2 Road.
One AM trip terminated at Burrard Station and did not continue to Howe & Davie.
490 Stopping Procedures
Pick-up and drop-off service at all designated stops.
September 1986 - Service introduced as 490 Steveston/Vancouver, running three trips in each direction[1][2]
August 2001 - Route renamed from 490 Steveston/Vancouver to 490 Steveston/Burrard Station. Stopping procedures revised to do pick-up and drop-off service at all 98 B-Line stops;[3] service change deferred from April due to transit strike.[4] Routing in Downtown Vancouver revised to be consistent with other Richmond express services. Service discontinued along the following corridors:
Smithe Street between Seymour and Burrard
Burrard Street between Smithe and Hastings
Hastings Street between Burrard and Howe
Howe Street between Hastings and Granville
Also introduction of a staging area at NB Seymour & Davie to accommodate buses entering service during the PM peak hour
September 2002 - Downtown routing revised to go via Pender Street to Burrard Station instead of via Waterfront Station to reduce travel times and improve service reliability
April 2003 - Route became wheelchair accessible[5]
September 2009 - Service discontinued following the completion of the Canada Line[6]
