Coast Mountain Bus Company 9401–9499, 9501–9542 are a set of 141 Nova Bus LFS HEV units built in 2009.

History
This series is the second order of diesel-electric hybrid buses (the first being New Flyer DE60LFR units the same year) for Coast Mountain Bus Company. The order was placed in January 2008 when Nova Bus signed an agreement with TransLink for the purchase, with an option for an additional 110 vehicles. The first units began entering service in the middle of October 2009.[1]
These units were one of the first orders delivered with the passenger voice-announcement and display systems by INIT pre-installed. CCTV cameras were installed in 2011. Compass Card readers were gradually installed starting in late 2012 and through 2013.
They feature Nova Bus' new centred rear-mounted engine, a redesigned rear exterior, and a slightly modified interior layout at the back compared to the diesel 2007 and 2008 models. When delivered, the interior dome lights were all white. Over time, the light covers were changed to blue to reduce glare at night. The first several units in this order were delivered with red-backlit Next Stop lights instead of the orange ones used on the other buses in this batch. Along with the other TransLink Nova Bus units in 2009, these are among the only buses to be delivered with a two-tone stop request chime, as opposed to a single tone typically used on other TransLink buses. However, some units have had their chimes replaced with a single tone due to routine wear and tear.
Following a trial on unit 9755, all second and third-generation Nova Bus LFS units in the fleet received exterior front modifications. The modification involved drilling a rectangular hole and installing a maintenance access panel for easier wiper motor access. The work commenced in January 2016 and was completed by 2018 on all units. Due to this modification, the front fleet numbers on this series had to be repositioned from the middle to the driver's side.
For one day in December 2016, some units made appearances on Port Coquitlam Transit Centre routes to address a sudden bus shortage caused by cracked axle beams on many of the 3300-series buses based from that depot. Due to challenges with bus operators being not familiar with the different operations with Nova Bus coaches (as Port Coquitlam historically does not have Nova Bus units, minus demonstrator units in the past), coaches on loan were immediately transferred back to their home depots and swapped for other units instead such as New Flyer's D40LF and XN40 models the following day.
After an initial trial on the 9726–9791 series Novas, hard barriers were installed replacing the "shower curtain" installed on all non-barrier buses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Installation work was done on this series in the summer of 2023.
Deployment
This series is split between Hamilton Transit Centre, Vancouver Transit Centre, and Richmond Transit Centre and can be found on any conventional bus routes operated by those depots. Traditionally, this series was split between Vancouver and Burnaby, with lower-numbered units in Burnaby and higher-numbered units in Vancouver. As part of a mass reorganization of operations involving the closure of the North Vancouver Transit Centre and the opening of Hamilton in September 2016, all Burnaby units were moved to Hamilton.
In December 2023, Richmond Transit Centre began operating these coaches. With the arrival of the 24100 series Nova Bus LFS Natural Gas units and as part of a system-wide fleet shuffle, additional units from Hamilton were reallocated to Richmond in September 2024.
