Coast Mountain Bus Company 14001–14045

Coast Mountain Bus Company 14001–14045 are a set of 45 New Flyer Industries XN40 units built in 2014.

History

This series was delivered beginning in October 2014. They are the first conventional buses delivered in the "Charcoal" paint scheme since the 2009 New Flyer LFR buses and were initially allocated to Port Coquitlam, the only transit centre equipped with a CNG fueling facility at the time.

This batch is the first Xcelsiors in the TransLink fleet to have fully enclosed windows, excluding the front-most and rear-most windows. This is to aid in the functionality of the air conditioning system. These are also the first buses to be delivered with Compass Card readers pre-installed.

Between September and December 2016, units from this series along with the 12000-series XDE60s received front modification work to retrofit the auxiliary air connection access from below the bus under the front road-side bumper to the front curbside on the body. This modification was to make access easier for mechanics to reach and to be consistent with the design used on newer New Flyer orders, particularly the 15000-series XDE60 coaches. A retrofit trial was done on unit 12012 in June 2016 and the design was replicated on these two series. The modification work required the rerouting of air connections and the installation of access ports just below the curbside headlight.

Starting in late October 2019, the headlight assemblies on all units were gradually upgraded to newer all-LED assemblies as found on 18001–18063 and later sets of Xcelsiors.

Driver barriers were gradually installed on all units starting in August 2019.

Deployment

This entire series is allocated to Port Coquitlam Transit Centre and can be found on any conventional bus route operated by this depot.

As part of the mass reorganization of operations involving the closure of North Vancouver Transit Centre and the opening of Hamilton Transit Centre in September 2016, units 14033–14045 were transferred to Hamilton along with the operations for routes 101 Lougheed Station/22nd Street Station, 104 22nd Street Station/Annacis Island, 128 Braid Station/22nd Street Station, and 155 Braid Station/22nd Street Station. However, these units returned to Port Coquitlam temporarily between December 2016 and February 2017 to address a bus shortage caused by cracked axles on several C40LFR units. They returned to Hamilton until they began to return to Port Coquitlam following the arrival of the 19100 series XN40s. All units returned to Port Coquitlam by December 2019.
