242 Lynn Valley/Vancouver was a bus route operated by Coast Mountain Bus Company in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Route Details
This was a north-south limited service route running between North Vancouver and Downtown when the SeaBus is not in service. Service was available on weekends and holidays only in the early morning.
The route departed Downtown Vancouver from its Cambie at Georgia terminus taking Hamilton Street, then Georgia westbound to the Lions Gate Bridge via the Stanley Park Causeway. The route exited the Lions Gate Bridge onto Marine Drive becoming 3rd Street before turning south onto Chesterfield Avenue. It entered Lonsdale Quay from Chesterfield, Esplanade, Lonsdale Avenue and then Carrie Cates Court. The route departed Lonsdale Quay taking Carrie Cates Court to Lonsdale northbound until 29th street, where it then took a right turn along 29th street. It then headed up Lynn Valley Road where it terminated at Lynn Valley Road at Mountain Highway.
Trips southbound looped from Lynn Valley road at Mountain Highway taking Mountain Highway southbound, 27th Street westbound, right on Lynn Valley Road, 29th Street and then Lonsdale Avenue to Lonsdale Quay. It terminated in Downtown at W. Georgia & Hamilton.
Select trips southbound terminated at Lonsdale Quay. Certain trips required a transfer from routes 229 Lonsdale Quay/Lynn Valley and 230 Upper Lonsdale/Lonsdale Quay at Lonsdale Quay to continue on route 242 into Downtown.

- April 1993 - Downtown terminus revised to operate from a temporary terminal on the east side of Beatty Street between Georgia and Dunsmuir adjacent to the Beatty Street Armoury with the closing of the Larwill Bus Depot[2]
- December 1997 - Local service along West Georgia Street to and from North Vancouver approved on a permanent basis after a six month trial period[3]
- May 2000 - Lions Gate Bridge reconstruction: direct service to downtown temporarily discontinued and revised to terminate at Park Royal for several months; shuttle service established between Lonsdale Quay and Chilco Loop via the Second Narrows Bridge[4]
- October 2001 - Funding shortfall requires cancellation of Suburban Owl services; all service after 1:40 AM is ended[5]
- February 2007 - Downtown terminus moved from Beatty Street to current Cambie at Georgia[6]
- June 2011 - All late night service revised and rerouted to run as N24 Lynn Valley Centre/Downtown NightBus[7]
- June 2016 - Re-routed to Lynn Valley from Upper Lonsdale and service north of 29th Street discontinued; northbound service renamed from 242 Upper Lonsdale to 242 Lynn Valley[8]
- September 2016 - North Vancouver Transit Centre closed down, operations moved to Burnaby Transit Centre
- October 2018 - Downtown terminus moved from Hamilton & Georgia to Georgia & Hamilton for unloading, Cambie & Georgia for loading
- April 2019 - Downtown terminus layover moved to Larwill Park
- April 2020 - Service discontinued and trips added onto N24 NightBus
