April 1997 Service Changes

As part of the April 1997 service changes, the 136 route was extended from its western terminus at Brentwood Mall to Burrard Station in Vancouver. This was done as a network restructure of Vancouver–North Burnaby suburban services. This restructure went through various public consultation stages throughout February–April 1997.

The 136 Montecito/Kootenay Loop/Vancouver operated between Kootenay Loop and Montecito during off-peak hours and extended to Stanley Park during peak hours and the routing was as followed:

Eastbound trips departed from Kootenay Loop heading east on E. Hastings Street, south on Holdom Avenue, east on Halifax Street, and south on Phillips Avenue to Phillips Avenue & Coronado Drive. During PM peak hours, trips started from Stanley Park and went north on Chilco Street, east on W. Georgia Street, east on W. Pender Street, south on Burrard Street, and west on Dunsmuir Street to Burrard Station. Continuing from Burrard Station, trips continued west on Dunsmuir Street becoming Melville Street, north on Thurlow Street, east on W. Pender Street, north on Seymour Street, and east on W. Hastings Street to Kootenay Loop.

Westbound trips departed from Phillips Avenue & Coronado Drive heading south on Phillips Avenue, west on Montecito Drive, north on Duthie Avenue, west on Halifax Street, south on Fell Avenue, west on Broadway, north on Holdom Avenue, and west on Hastings Street to Kootenay Loop. During AM peak hours, trips continued beyond Kootenay Loop by heading west on E. Hastings Street, south on Richards Street, west on W. Pender Street, south on Burrard Street, and west on Dunsmuir Street to Burrard Station.

In December 1997, the downtown routing was revised to omit W. Pender Street between Burrard Street and Richards Street due to traffic congestion. Westbound trips instead continued on W. Hastings Street and south on Burrard Street and eastbound trips departed from Stanley Park heading north on Chilco Street, east on W. Georgia Street, west on W. Pender Street, north on Burrard Street, and east on W. Hastings Street.[14]

Local service was provided in both directions within Downtown Vancouver. Then stops were made only at:

  • E. Hastings Street & Main Street
  • E. Hastings Street & Commercial Drive
  • E. Hastings Street & Nanaimo Street
  • E. Hastings Street & Renfrew Street
  • PNE Park & Ride

Then local service was provided in both directions between Kootenay Loop and Montecito.

September 2002 Service Changes

As part of the bus network realignment following the completion of the Millennium Line, service to Kootenay Loop and Downtown Vancouver was discontinued. The 136 was instead shortened back to Brentwood Station. Service through Montecito was also discontinued and instead extended east to Lougheed Station via Production Station and Forest Grove and ran as the 136 Lougheed Station/Brentwood Station, replacing the Forest Grove portions of the 134 and the Government Street portions of the 110 east to Brighton Avenue. The routing was as followed:

Eastbound trips departed from Brentwood Station heading south on Willingdon Avenue, east on Lougheed Highway, east on Douglas Road, east on Goring Street, north on Holdom Avenue, east on Halifax Street, north on Phillips Avenue, east on Greystone Drive becoming Arden Avenue heading south, east on Broadway, north on Underhill Avenue, east on Forest Grove Drive, and south on Production Way to Production Way–University Station. Continuing from Production Way Station, trips continued south on Production Way becoming Brighton Avenue, east on Government Street becoming Austin Road heading north, and east on Gatineau Place to Lougheed Station.

Westbound trips departed Lougheed Station heading west on Gatineau Place, south on Austin Road becoming Government Street heading west, and north on Brighton Avenue becoming Production Way to Production Way–University Station. Continuing from Production Way–University Station, trips head north on Production Way, west on Forest Grove Drive, south on Underhill Avenue, west on Broadway, north on Arden Avenue becoming Greystone Drive, south on Burnwood Drive, west on Halifax Street, south on Fell Avenue, west on Broadway, south on Holdom Avenue, west on Goring Street, west on Douglas Road, west on Lougheed Highway, and north on Willingdon Avenue to Brentwood Station.
