Route Details

This is an east-west route connecting Burquitlam Station and Coquitlam Central Station running primarily on Como Lake Avenue. Service runs daily every 30 minutes. Late-night service runs every hour.

Eastbound trips depart Burquitlam Station heading north on Clarke Road, east on Como Lake Avenue becoming Spuraway Avenue and Ranch Park Way, west on Dewdney Trunk Road, north on Mariner Way, east on Barnet Highway, and south on bus access road to Coquitlam Central Station.

Westbound trips depart Coquitlam Central Station heading north on bus access road, east on Barnet Highway, south on Lougheed Highway, west on Dewdney Trunk Road, south on Ranch Park Way becoming Spuraway Avenue, west on Como Lake Avenue, south on Clarke Road, and east on mall access road to Burquitlam Station.

On weekdays when school is in session, a school special trip running as 151 Burquitlam Station via Rec Centre starts at the 2500 Block on Como Lake Avenue and heads west on Como Lake Avenue, south on Linton Street, west on Foster Avenue, south on Poirier Street, west on Winslow Avenue, north on Schoolhouse Street, west on Como Lake Avenue and continues along the regular route westbound 151 routing to Burquitlam Station.

History

• August 1978 - Service introduced as 151 Laurentian running between Port Coquitlam, Lougheed Mall, and Downtown Vancouver and interlined with the 163 Prairie. Service replaced portions of the discontinued 933 Lougheed
• BC Transit Era - Service provided to Vancouver as route 151 Coquitlam Station/Vancouver operating as an express service
• June 1987 - Routing near Coquitlam Centre revised to operate via Westwood, Lincoln, Pinetree Way and Lougheed in both directions between Coquitlam Centre and Port Coquitlam Centre
• December 1991 - Accessible service introduced on select trips
• July 1992 - Service revised to stop on Winslow Avenue instead of inside the Coquitlam Rec Centre loop resulting in minor routing change
• December 1992 - Select peak hour trips revised to go via Marine Way between Como Lake and Dewdney Trunk Road
• April 1994 - Eastbound service revised to operate via access road to Mariner Way, Johnson, Glen, Pinetree, Lincoln and then regular route to Port Coquitlam Centre
• December 1995 - Service along Pinetree, Glen and Johnson Street terminated and service to downtown adjusted with select trips terminating at Hornby Terminus by Hastings, Howe, Dunsmuir, Burrard, Helmeken to Terminus; eastbound trips route via Hornby, Smithe, Burrard and Hastings
• February 1996 - Peak hour trips extended from Burrard Station to Hornby & Nelson
• September 1996 - Routing revised to enter Coquitlam Station via the Johnson–Mariner overpass following its completion
• September 1997 - Stopping procedures revised at Brentwood to allow for pick-up and drop-off
• December 1997 - All eastbound trips rerouted via Ranch Park and Norman to Dewdney Trunk Road due to safety concerns regarding turns from Ranch Park onto Dewdney Trunk
• March 2000 - Millennium Line construction: Route detoured off Lougheed Highway onto Winston, Government, and Austin to Lougheed Mall
• May 2000 - Millennium Line construction: Routing revised from Brentwood Mall via Willingdon, Dawson, Beta, Lougheed then regular route to Lougheed Mall
• June 2000 - Millennium Line construction: Temporary rerouting of detour routing revised to go via Lougheed, Bainbridge, Winston, then regular detour routing to Lougheed Mall due to the closure of Winston Slip
• July 2000 - Winston Slip reopened and detour routing revised to go via Lougheed, Winston, regular detour routing to Lougheed Mall
• 2000 - Eastbound reroute due to the construction for the Millennium Line via Willingdon, Dawson, Beta, Lougheed, Winston, Government St, Austin to Lougheed Mall
• April 2001 - Westbound downtown routing revised to go via Hastings, Howe, Georgia, Burrard to Burrard Station to address space constraints at Burrard Station following the expansion of Richmond suburban services
• September 2002 - Millennium Line service adjustments: Route shortened to Lougheed Station and replaced a portion of the 154 between Lougheed Station and Coquitlam Rec Centre
• September 2003 - Route became bike rack equipped
• April 2011 - Late-night service reduced from every 30 minutes to every hour due to low ridership
• December 2016 - Routing changed to provide direct service along Como Lake Avenue and regular service via Coquitlam Rec. Centre discontinued except for school special trips. Western terminus moved from Lougheed Station to Burquitlam Station. Service on Cottonwood Avenue and Foster Avenue discontinued and replaced by the 157
• September 2020 - Service renamed from 151 Coquitlam Central Station/Burquitlam Station to 151 Como Lake Avenue
• September 2022 - Eastbound PM school special starting from the Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex via Winslow, Poirier, Foster, Linton, Como Lake, Mariner, Dewdney Trunk, Westwood, Kingsway to Port Coquitlam Station discontinued and revised to run as 153 Coquitlam Central Station
• October 2, 2023 - Eastbound trips at Burquitlam Station revised to service the station twice at Bays 3 and 5 to improve travel options for passengers along Como Lake Avenue
• October 11, 2023 - Eastbound trips at Burquitlam Station reverted back to only servicing Bay 3 in response to operational challenges
