York University is a public university and a major transit hub located in Toronto, ON. It is located in the land bordering Jane St., Keele St., Steeles Ave., and Finch Ave.
Details
Four transit systems serve the university in three main locations. GO Transit buses serve the south side of York Blvd., between the two Accolade buildings. Toronto Transit Commission York University Station provides access to Line 1 at Ian MacDonald Blvd and York Blvd. York Region Transit and Brampton Transit buses serve Ian MacDonald Blvd. between Vanier Lane and The Chimneystack Rd.
York University is GO Transit's main hub for the 407 services and was one of YRT's main terminals.
The university also operates the York University Shuttle, linking the Keele and Glendon campuses, York University GO Station, and the immediate off-campus housing areas.
At approximately 7,220 passengers on an average weekday, York University is the 3rd busiest transit passenger loading location in the YRT/Viva network according to the 2013 Transportation Fact Book. This is an decrease from approximately 7,580 weekday passengers from the 2011 Transportation Fact Book.
History
In 2013, GO Transit fare machines were installed at the GO Transit bus loading area near the Accolade East and West buildings.
On December 17th 2017, the Toronto Transit Commission opened York University Station and relocated bus services to Finch West and Pioneer Village Stations, along with eliminating route 196 York University Rocket. York Region Transit Also changed route 22A King City into the 96 Keele-Yonge along with Viva Purple service York University on weekdays only when going to Pioneer Village Bus Terminal. Viva Orange was also changed to no longer service York University but instead service Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Rapidway Station.
On September 2nd 2018, York Region Transit relocated all bus routes from York University to the Pioneer Village Bus Terminal. Viva Purple no longer services Pioneer Village Bus Terminal or York University and instead terminates at Richmond Hill Centre.
On September 4th 2018, Brampton Transit suspended service on the 501 branch to York University, instead this branch terminates at the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Rapidway Station. 501A and 501C branches continue to run to York University.
