82 Valleymede is a local bus route operated by York Region Transit in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada.
Route Details
Route 82 serves mainly Shirley Drive, Spadina Road, and Valleymede Drive.
This route serves the Redstone and Bayview Hill communities. It also serves Richmond Green Sports Centre, Rouge Woods Community Centre, Smart!Centres Richmond Hill, Bayview Hill Community Centre, Ed Sackfield Arena, and Beaver Creek Business Park. One trip in the morning and one in the afternoon also serve Richmond Green Secondary School and Richmond Green Library. One trip in the morning also serves Bernard Terminal and Richmond Hill High School. One trip in the morning and one in the afternoon also serve St. Robert Catholic High School.
Route 82 connects to Viva Pink and Viva Purple at Highway 7. The one trip serving Bernard Terminal and Richmond Hill High School connects to Viva Blue at Yonge/Elgin Mills and Bernard Terminal.

History
The precursor to route 82 was Richmond Hill Transit route 2. It followed almost the same route as today's route 82, but operating on Newkirk Road to Bernard Terminal, as the area north of Major Mackenzie was not developed yet. When YRT took over operations from Richmond Hill Transit, it renumbered route 2 into route 82. The same routing was used after amalgamation.
- September 4, 2001 - Richmond Hill Transit was merged into YRT in January 2001 and route 82 was formed from Richmond Hill Transit's routes 2 and 2A. On this date, route 2 Newkirk was renumbered 82 and route 2A Langstaff Local was renumbered 82A in order to avoid route number duplication across the York Region Transit network.
- September 3, 2002 - Branch 82A is discontinued and replaced with the new route 87 extending into the Maple and Thornhill Woods neighbourhoods.
- May 9, 2004 - A general rerouting in the Richmond Hill area brought around major changes to this route. The route was renamed from Newkirk to Valleymede-Spadina. Service on Newkirk Road ended and replaced by a modified route 86. Route 82 was extended north along Farmstead Road and Shirley Drive to Richmond Green, near Elgin Mills Road and Leslie Street. Limited service was operated along Farmstead Road to Richmond Hill GO Station, having lost that direct connection while operating along Newkirk Road. Full service was offered to St. Robert Catholic High School.
- May 8, 2005 - All-day Saturday service is introduced.
- September 4, 2005 - New service introduced during weekday evenings operating until 9:30pm.
- September 4, 2007 - Full Monday to Saturday service is extended from Richmond Green to Richmond Green Secondary School which was previously only served at bell times.
- September 2011 - Saturday service was eliminated due to low ridership.
- April 23, 2012 - Route 82 was heavily revised. The northern end of the route was truncated to terminate at Elgin Mills Road/Redstone Road, looping via Shirley Drive, Elgin Mills Road, and Redstone Road. Trips now only serve Richmond Green Secondary School to meet bell times. The southern end of the route was truncated to terminate at Commerce Valley Drive/Leslie Street at all times, with service extended to St. Robert only during bell times. Service was also modified to use Minthorn Boulevard instead of Highway 7 to minimize delays from rapidway construction.
- December 2012 - Route 82 was declared fully accessible.
- July 2, 2013 - Service is reduced to operate during rush hours only with weekday midday service discontinued. Also, the route name was changed from Valleymede-Spadina to Valleymede, although destination signs showed "Valleymede" for a long time after the change.
- April 5, 2020 - Due to lower ridership from the COVID-19 pandemic, the route is temporarily suspended.
- September 6, 2020 - Full service is restored.
- April 30, 2023 - Limited service to Richmond Hill GO Station is discontinued due to low ridership.
