York Region Transit route 800 'Pan Am'
|Number of Branches||1 official + 2 unofficial|
|Types of buses used||Arboc Spirit of Mobility|
800 Pan Am was a temporary route operated by YRT in Vaughan, Markham, Toronto, and Richmond Hill, ON, operating only during the 2015 Toronto Pan Am/Parapam Am Games.
There were three "branches" of route 800, however only one was officially advertised, connecting Angus Glen Community Centre and Angus Glen Golf Club (ANG) in Markham. It operated when events were held at ANG, between July 16 and July 19, 2015. The other two "branches" operate between Finch Terminal and the Markham Pan Am/Parapan Am Centre (MAR), with one branch also serving Richmond Hill Centre Terminal. Both only operated when events were held at MAR.
As part of the Games Transit Network, the Government of Ontario wanted to reduce traffic congestion by 20% and encourage people attending the games to use public transit, due to limited to zero parking availability across all events in the Greater Toronto Area. York Region responded by providing a venue connection shuttle to ANG, and it was internally numbered 800 (the Arboc vehicles used in the shuttle do not have destination signs, and route numbers were not displayed anywhere around the bus).
Route 800 eventually became the number used for both the ANG and MAR venue shuttles, however the MAR venue shuttles were never externally advertised. MAR venue shuttles were provided by Viva and connected passengers heading to MAR from Finch Terminal and/or Richmond Hill Centre Terminal during event days at MAR.
