York Region Transit route 33 'Bayview-Leslie'
33 Bayview-Leslie was a base route operated by YRT in Aurora and Newmarket, ON.
Route 33 mainly served Bayview Ave. and Leslie St., as well as a number of streets in eastern Aurora and Newmarket.
This route had 1 branch:
- 33 Aurora Centre - 404 Town Centre (Monday to Saturday)
Route 33 existed before Viva, but it would not have made any connections with the current network.
Newmarket Transit originally operated routes 11 and 77, which were combined into a single route (77/11). YRT inherited the service in 2001, and in September they renumbered it to route 33.
This route operated as a large circle, starting at Stone Road and Bayview, heading north on Bayview (diverting into Aurora Centre and along Pederson, Earl Stewart and St. John's Sideroad), divert via Water, Main and Timothy, then north on Prospect and Lundy's Lane, east on Leslie Valley, south on Leslie (through 404 Town Centre), west on Stonehaven and south on Bayview back to Stone. Some rush hour trips diverted west on Wellington to the Aurora GO Station. 3 loops existed: along Srigley, Alexander and Queen; Davis, Carlson, Gorham and Crowder; and along Lockwood Circuit. These loops had rush-hour service to serve high school students, and also had Dial-A-Bus service during the midday period.
In September 2004, service was restructured and 33 was replaced by a number of routes:
- Service along Bayview from Stone to Davis was replaced by the new route 54.
- Service along Leslie between Davis and Stonehaven, as well as on Stonehaven was replaced by a new route 57 branch.
- Service north of Davis was mostly replaced by the new route 55B.
- Service to Aurora GO Station from Stone Road was incorporated into the routing of the new route 221.
The special loops never regained any transit service, except for a portion of Queen St. (which served as part of the on-street loop for route 54).
In 2005, the number 33 was reused for a new route along Wellington.
A through service on Leslie was originally implemented, as route 58 originally operated as far south as Stonehaven (the full length of route 33's service on Leslie), however it was cut back to the 404 Town Centre. There were plans to re-extend the route to Wellington, though those plans have since been shelved.
