GO Transit 4000-4001
GO Transit 4000-4001 are Alexander Dennis/Proterra Enviro500EV Super-Lo buses built in 2020. This marks the first electric bus order for GO Transit.
The buses were delivered in 2021, and began undergoing testing and evaluation starting in December 2021.[1] They were officially unveiled in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 12, 2023, and both entered passenger service on May 15, 2023.[2] Due to having a shorter range (225-300km) than typical diesel buses (800-1100km), they will initially be placed on certain runs on routes 19, 27, 92 and 96B.
Like the final batch (8522-8567) of its diesel cousins, they have a USB charger behind each seat, seatbelts for each seat and a revised seating layout for a total of 62 individuals, 10 on the bottom level and 52 on the top level. The seatbelts are the result of new federal regulations while the reduced seating is for the extra space taken up by the batteries.
The two buses never proved to be exceptionally reliable. They were taken out of service many times. March 2024 was the last time 4000 was in service, and July 2024 was the last time 4001 was in service. GO will be ending their battery electric bus trial in April 2025. The buses, however, are not expected to return to service.
