York Region Transit route 37D 'Islington'
Also see the TTC route history: 37 Islington
Route 37D served Pine Valley Dr. south of Highway 7 and Rowntree Dairy Rd.
This route had 1 branch:
- 37D Islington Stn - Highway 7 via Pine Valley (Weekdays)
This route served the Woodbridge community. It also serves the industrial/commercial area around Rowntree Dairy Rd.
Route 37D did not directly connect to Viva.
Service was contracted out to the TTC by YRT. This involved TTC operating the buses and collecting the fares, but YRT paying for any losses in running the service. A TTC fare was required for passengers traveling south of Steeles Ave., but only a YRT fare was required if the entire trip was north of Steeles.
Route 37D is currently one of two routes (the other being route 102D) YRT contracted out to the TTC. All other TTC routes operating north of Steeles (excluding 53B/E and buses looping in off-street loops north of Steeles) had pre-existing contracts inherited from Vaughan and Markham Transits.
Vaughan Transit's route 6 provided service along a similar route before amalgamation. Buses started at Islington Loop west of Pine Valley, and followed Strada, Rowntree Dairy, Whitmore, Ansley Grove and Langstaff to loop in an off-street loop at Weston and Langstaff. When YRT took over operations from Vaughan Transit in 2001, it decided to reconfigure operations in Woodbridge. In October 15, 2001, route 6 headed further up Pine Valley to Highway 7, and east to Ansley Grove, where it continued its route. Operations south of Highway 7 were contracted out to the TTC, who extended a branch of its route 37 bus (which loops in the same loop) along the former route 6, where buses loop via Whitmore and Winges Rds. back to Rowntree Dairy. Service has remained the same ever since.
YRT's route 6 no longer operates; both the Pine Valley, Highway 7 and Ansley Grove sections of the route were covered by YRT routes 12, 77 and 10 respectively. The Langstaff portion was later covered by an extension of route 12.
Route 37D was declared fully accessible in December 2012.
Route 37D was discontinued on June 30, 2013 due to a low revenue-cost ratio.
