History
- May 9, 2004 - Route 440 is introduced as one of the original school specials serving St. Theresa. It was named "St. Theresa School Special 3" and follows the same routing as today.
- September 5, 2004 - Route is assigned the number 440, which was also assigned to route 440 for the Richmond Hill School Special 1, which follows an identical routing.
- September 5, 2023 - Route will no longer serve the Richmond Hill GO Station bus terminal. The eastern terminus will be on Centre Street East, one bus stop east of Pugsley Avenue.
- November 3, 2024 - Operations of route 440 were transferred from Southeast Division to Southwest Division.

AM: This route starts on Bathurst Street at McCallum Drive and operates via McCallum Drive, Don Head Village Boulevard, Major Mackenzie Drive West, Bathurst Street, Queen Filomena Avenue, Via Romano Boulevard, Dimarino Drive, Lady Fenyrose Avenue, Teston Road, Bathurst Street, and Shaftsbury Avenue to the school.
PM: Generally reverse routing, however the route operates via south on Larratt Lane and west Elgin Mills Road after departing the school. It also operates over the same clockwise looping via Via Romano Boulevard, Dimarino Drive, Lady Fernrose Drive, and Teston Road.
History
- May 9, 2004 - New school special route commences service as one of the original St. Theresa School Specials and was named "St. Theresa School Special 1". It initially operated between Bathurst Street and Carrville Road and the school.
- September 5, 2004 - Route is assigned the number 446.
- September 3, 2006 - Route 446 was extended southward along Bathurst Street from Carrville Road to Promenade Terminal in the 2006 school season.
- September 2, 2008 - Route is revised to divert via west on Queen Filomena Avenue, north on Via Romano Boulevard, and east on Teston Road, no longer operating via Bathurst Street along this stretch.
- November 14, 2010 - A further diversion was implemented to serve Dimarino Drive and Lady Fenyrose Avenue. Morning and afternoon trips loop clockwise via Dimarino Drive, Ladyrose Avenue, and Teston Road.
- September 2013 - As proposed in the 2013 Annual Service Plan, service is truncated to start and end trips on Bathurst Street at McCallum Drive instead of Promenade Terminal. Operations transferred from Southeast Division to Southwest Division.
