Brampton Gateway Terminal is a transit terminal located in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. It is located along the northwest corner of Main Street and Steeles Avenue, southeast of the Shoppers World Brampton Mall. It replaced the old Shoppers World Terminal one block west, and is the third bus terminal to be built on the property. It is currently Brampton Transit's newest terminal.

Brampton Gateway Terminal has 15 bays, with the terminal building located between bays 8 and 9. The building houses a customer service centre, washrooms, and screens indicating when the next buses depart each bay.

History

The original Shopper's World Terminal was built on the east side of the mall (presently around where the Canadian Tiere is today) and opened in 1981, although buses had been servicing the mall in years prior. It was a simple island platform with shelters inside the mall parking lot grounds, with 6 bays and a clockwise loop. Mississauga Transit's 19 Hurontario started using the terminal in the early 1980's, connecting to local Brampton Transit routes.

The second Shoppers World Terminal was built to replace the original one, which was 20 years old at the time. The new terminal was constructed at the south-west corner of the mall property just off Steeles Avenue (previously occupied by a parking lot) and opened for use in July 2001. It served mainly Brampton routes in the south end of the city as well as main cross-town routes, along with Mississauga Transit route 19. It consisted of a main centre platform with shelters and small terminal building for ticket sales and transit information, along with a small second platform to the west for Mississauga Transit/MiWay. Buses could enter/exit directly off Steeles, or at a separate controlled intersection just east of the terminal. GO Transit buses didn't directly service the terminal, although some GO routes did have a "Shopper's World Mall" stop listed at nearby Hurontario & Bartley Bull Parkway.

The second terminal had similar amenities as the current terminal, however as the transit system expanded the terminal started to experience frequent overcrowding of both passengers and buses. The introduction of Züm service to Shoppers World meant the elimination of MiWay route 19 in the terminal and the introduction of route 103, which mirrored route 502 between Brampton and Eglinton (route 103 does not enter Square One). However, the addition of two frequent routes and increased service along Steeles further complicated operations in the terminal, and it was evident a new terminal was needed.

Construction for the new Gateway Terminal started in August 2011. It was supposed to be opened by September 2012 in time for Züm Steeles service, however delays pushed the terminal opening (and the start of Züm Steeles) until November 26, 2012. The old terminal was closed down and blocked off from use, pending future redevelopment.

Routes

Bays 1-3 are located on Steeles Avenue West, bays 4-12 are located within the off-street terminal, and bays 13-15 are located on Main Street South.
