GO Transit 2138-2148
GO Transit 2138-2148 were MCI D4500 buses acquired new in November 2002. All buses in this series were equipped with wheelchair lifts and had two wheelchair positions through seat adjustment.
A tender for the refurbishment of 49 buses was put out in February 2008. Eastway was awarded the contract and the buses began being refurbished later in 2008 and into 2009. The refurbishment included a mechanical overhaul and updating the livery to the livery introduced with the 2008 D4500CTs and Enviro500s.
The coaches were delivered with 57 seats, with some of the seats featuring cup holders. Due to damage, these were gradually removed. A fleet-wide removal of the row of seats beside the wheelchair access door took place in 2013 in an effort to expedite wheelchair loading. This row of seats had to slide forward on a track to make space for the wheelchair, however the track would frequently become clogged with debris and inhibit motion.
In 2012, Metrolinx awarded INIT a contract to equip the GO Transit fleet with intelligent transportation systems. These include computer aided dispatch, automatic vehicle location, on-board mobile data terminals, automatic passenger counting, next stop announcements, in-vehicle variable message signs, real-time vehicle diagnostics and interfaces to existing destination signs, bike rack sensors and wheelchair lift sensors. Installation took place in 2013.
