83 Trench is a local bus route operated by York Region Transit in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada
Basic
Routes 83 and 83A combined mainly serves Mill Street, Trench Street, Avenue Road, and Pearson Avenue. Route 83 also serves Regent Street and Canyon Hill Avenue, while route 83A also serves Crosby Avenue and Redstone Road.
These routes serve the Redstone, Beverly Acres, Central Richmond Hill, Mill Pond, and Richvale communities. It also serves Richmond Green Library, Jean Vanier Catholic High School, Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, York Central Hospital, Alexander Mackenzie High School, Richvale Community Centre, Richvale Library, and Langstaff Secondary School. One trip in the morning and afternoon on route 83 also serve Richmond Hill High School. One trip in the morning and one in the afternoon on route 83 also serve St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School.
Route 83 connects to Viva Blue at Bernard Terminal and Richmond Hill Centre Terminal, where it also connects with Viva Orange and Viva Purple, and with Viva Pink during weekday rush hours. Route 83A connects to Viva Blue at Yonge/Crosby.

Historic Branches
History
Route 83 in general first started as Richmond Hill Transit route 3. It operated much the same route as the section south of Mill Street does now, looping north of Langstaff Road. Buses in the north end turn east on Mill Street and north on Yonge Street to Bernard Terminal.
- January 1, 2001 - When YRT took over operations from Richmond Hill Transit, major revisions were made to the route. The route was extended south via Bathurst Street to Promenade Terminal. The portion to become route 83 was then known as the rush-hour route 80, while the section to become route 83A was part of route 86A's large loop, and a small section of route 81. A limited-service route operated along Regent Street to Elgin Mills Road, rejoining the route at Yonge Street.
- September 4, 2001 - The route is renumbered from 3 to 83 in order to avoid route number duplication across the York Region Transit network. Service is extended to Langstaff GO Station via Garden Avenue, Yonge Street and Langstaff Road.
- May 9, 2004 - Major changes to the route were made in association with a major restructuring in Richmond Hill. A general rerouting in the Richmond Hill area changed a number of routes, including route 83. Routes 80 and 81 were eliminated, route 82 was cut back, route 86 was reorganized and extended, and route 83 was left to cover service on most of the eliminated sections. Route 83 was rerouted west on Mill Street, north on Bathurst Street, and east on Shaftsbury and Canyon Hill to Bernard Terminal. Route 83A was introduced, running on the current route from Promenade Terminal to Mill Street, east on Mill Street, Wright Street, and Dunlop Street, north on Pugsley Avenue, west on Crosby Avenue, north on Yonge Street, east on Bernard Avenue to Bernard Terminal, and north on Yorkland Street to Richmond Hill High School. The limited-service routing along Regent Street disappeared at this time, to be reinstated in Spring 2007.
- June 27, 2004 - Branch 83A is extended to Richmond Green Secondary School via Crosby Avenue and Redstone Road to serve the Elgin Mills Road/Leslie Street area. Limited trips on branch 83A extended north on Yonge Street to serve the Richmond Heights Plaza looping via Jacey Ann Drive.
- September 4, 2005 - Richmond Hill Centre opened, so route 83/83A was adjusted to terminate at the terminal and no longer serving Promenade Terminal. The portions south of Langstaff Road/Highway 7 were already being covered by routes 87 and 88. Due to limited bus platforms at Bernard Terminal, buses pickup and drop-off on Bernard Street and will now loop on-street via Bernard Street, Yorkland Street, Silverwood Avenue, and Yonge Street.
- 2007 - All-day service started operating into Richmond Green in Spring 2007, while some trips had been meeting bell times since 2005.
- April 27, 2008 - The rush hour service diversion to Langstaff GO Station is eliminated with the opening of a new pedestrian bridge connecting Richmond Hill Centre Terminal and the station.
- June 28, 2009 - Route expanded to serve the Via Romano community operating via Teston Road, Via Romano Boulevard, and Queen Filomena Avenue. Route 83 will no longer serve stops on Bathurst Street between Mill Street/Queen Filomena Avenue and Elgin Mills Road/Teston Road
- July 1, 2012 - Routes 83 and 83A were restructured as part of the Summer 2012 service changes. Branch 83 no longer regularly serves Via Romano Boulevard, Queen Filomena Avenue, Teston Road, Bathurst Street, and Shaftsbury Avenue north of Canyon Hill Avenue. Full Monday-Saturday service on branch 83 is instead rerouted to run via Regent Street and Ellery Drive to Canyon Hill Avenue. Limited school trips are maintained along Shaftsbury Avenue during bell times for St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School. Service on branch 83A is reduced to operate during weekday rush hours. It is also modified to only operate as far south as Hillcrest Mall with service to Richmond Heights Plaza fully removed. Regular service on branch 83A along Dunlop Street and Pugsley Avenue is reduced to be served by limited morning southbound-only trips.
- December 2012 - Routes 83 and 83A were declared fully accessible.
- July 6, 2013 - Saturday service was eliminated on route 83.
- September 2017 to July 2018 - Due to long-term construction along Trench Street, buses are detoured via Major Mackenzie Drive, Bathurst Street and Mill Street. A limited service diversion via Pugsley Avenue and Dunlop Street was also added.
- September 1, 2024 - Operations of routes 83/83A are transferred from Southeast Division to West Division.
