414 Unionville/Bill Crothers School Special was a school special bus route operated by York Region Transit in Markham and Stouffville, Ontario, Canada.
Route Details
This route was basically the same as route 9 (and back then route 15), ending at Markham-Stouffville Hospital in AM and starting from there in PM.
Route 414 was a very unique school special; it was unique because not only does it not directly stop at or near the high school it serves the students of (forcing them to transfer to route 1 or Viva Purple), it was one of three routes (the others being routes 413 and 463) that serve two different high schools on the same run. This is made possible because of the earlier point.
History
- August 5, 2008 - Route 414 was introduced in the 2008 school season after the school board toyed around with the idea of cancelling school buses from the school to Stouffville. The new school special will provide a connection between students living in Stouffville to Bill Crothers Secondary School.
- September 6, 2011 - The morning routing is extended to service Markham District High School in order to accommodate students travelling from Stouffville.
- June 30, 2013 - Initially, due to student protests over cancellation of school bus service, the plan to cancel the service never materialized. Ridership on this route remained quite low forcing its discontinuation on this date prior to the 2013 school season.
Vehicles
Buses that operated on this school special include the 40ft New Flyer D40LF .
