The route 6 number had previously been used in the past for the 6 Mackay route in the mid-2000's (replacing part of the 15 Bramalea's former routing on Black Forest, Sunny Meadow, Professor's Lake Parkway, and the 18's former routing over Fernforest, Mackay, and Williams Parkway). Before that, it had been used in the early 2000's for the 6 Castlemore route (operating along Airport Road between Treeline Blvd and Coventry Rd).
