Newmarket High School is a secondary school at 505 Pickering Crescent in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. It is located on Mulock Drive, one block west of Leslie Street. It is directly served by one route, along with three school specials.

420 Newmarket School Special via Savage is a school special bus route operated by York Region Transit in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada.

Route Details

AM: The route starts at Newmarket GO Bus Terminal and follow 57's routing to the high school, diverting south off Mulock Drive along Sandford Street and looping via Shanahan Boulevard and Savage Road.

PM: Reverse routing, except the route follows the same counterclockwise looping direction via Savage Road.

History

  • September 2003 - Newmarket was one of the first high schools to have a school special. It originally operated between Brimson/Alex Doner and the school via Savage Road and Stonehaven Road.
  • September 5, 2004 - Originally unnumbered, the route is assigned the number 420.
  • September 2006 - Route 420 was modified during the 2006 school season to serve Mulock Drive directly from Yonge Street to the school instead of diverting via Stonehaven Road.
  • April 28, 2008 - The west end of the route was extended to Newmarket Terminal in order to accommodate the route 53/57A changes.
  • November 17, 2008 - Originally providing afternoon service only, morning service was added.

Route Details

AM: The route starts on Bayview Avenue at Brooker Ridge and proceeds north on Bayview Avenue, east on Stonehaven Avenue, north on Leslie Street, and west on Mulock Drive to the school.

PM: Reverse routing.

History

  • September 2003 - Newmarket was one of the first high schools to have a school special. The route operated between St. Johns Sideroad at Pinnacle Trail and the school via St. John's Sideroad, Bayview Avenue, and Stonehaven Road.
  • September 5, 2004 - Originally unnumbered, the route was assigned the number 421.
  • January 4, 2010 - Route is shortened in the south to start on Bayview Avenue at Brooker Ridge.
  • September 6, 2015 - Service is re-introduced for the 2015/2016 school season.
  • September 4, 2016 - Route is discontinued. The afternoon trip is combined with the restructured route 427.
