Brampton Transit 1050-1074
Brampton Transit 1050-1074 are New Flyer XDE40 buses built in 2010. They are the first production buses of the Xcelsior model. The buses are reserved exclusively for use on the Züm bus rapid transit network. The first bus, 1050, was delivered in April 2010. It made its official debut at the 2010 Ontario Transportation Expo with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The following day, it was unveiled to the general public in front of City Hall.
This order was part of a three-year contract for up to 60 Züm (then known as AcceleRide) buses. The order for 40 foot (mainly) and 60 foot buses where two manufacturers bid was awarded to New Flyer the last week of November 2008. The first 20 to 25 buses were scheduled to be delivered in May 2010. In July 2010, it was announced 16 buses of the remainder of the order would be built. In actuality, some initial deliveries had taken place between April and June, with the remaining bulk of the order all delivered by early August. The units would enter service in mid-September with commencement of the new Züm 501 route.).
The exterior of these buses features the Züm livery which consists of a silver base with red front arching to and along the roofline. There is a large Züm logo taking up the space between the rear door and front wheel on the open side, and the same logo in the same location on the closed side.
The interior is configured for 38 passengers or 29 passengers with two wheelchairs. A wheelchair ramp is located at the front door. The passenger seats are 4ONE Mariella models in light grey and are trimmed in Holdsworth BAM312 "Zebra Squares" moquette with custom Züm logo. Side walls under the window are trimmed in a light blue-green carpet material. The rear doors are passenger operated with Vapor's CLASS system, and windows are tinted and of the tip-in transom design.
