King City GO Station is a GO Transit train station located in King City, ON. It is located along Keele St. at Station Rd., south of King Rd.
The station platform is on the east side of the tracks, and extends south from Station Rd. The station building is located along the platform, with the main parking lot to the east of the tracks, extending east to Keele St. The secondary lot is on the west side of the tracks, both south and north of Station Rd. Tickets are available at the station building during AM rush hours, and from a Ticket Vending Machine at other times.
History
The original station for King City was located north of the current one, and was opened in 1852. In 1989, the building to the King Township Museum, and is now preserved there as the oldest surviving rail station in Canada.
The station itself has gone through a substantial amount of construction and renovation in its history. Originally with 111 parking spots, parking capacity was increased to 255 in 2002. The west parking lot was added in February 2006, increasing the parking capacity to 375. Additional construction has occurred at the station as well, including an extension of the loading platform in 2004 to accommodate 10-car trains and the addition of a covered station building in 2005.
