York Region Transit route 210 'Lunch Express'
210 Lunch Express was a shuttle route operated by York Region Transit in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada.
Route 210 mainly served the Beaver Creek and Commerce Valley Business Parks. It also served York Square, Jubilee Square, Commerce Gate, and the Municipal Offices of the Town of Richmond Hill. Buses started their trips at York Square and operated a counterclockwise looping route via north on East Beaver Creek Road, west on Pearce Street, south on West Beaver Creek Road and Commerce Valley Drive West, and east and north on Commerce Valley Drive East.
This route had 1 branch:
- 210 Counterclockwise (Fridays)
Route 210 officially began operations as a YRT route on June 30, 2008. However, its roots started when Smart Commute 404-7 was formed in 2005. The objective of this initiative was to ease the flow of traffic in and around Highway 404 and Highway 7, especially during the lunch hours. As a result, The Lunch Express was created.
The Lunch Express was sponsored by Smart Commute until the end of June 2008. Afterwards, in partnership with Smart Commute, YRT took over the operation of the route. The route was given the number 210 and it began as a 3-month pilot project of a YRT bus operating in the Beaver Creek Business Park, connecting with the food plazas in the Highway 7 area. This bus operated during the lunch hours (between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.) on Fridays only, providing service every 15 minutes.
In addition, the uniqueness of this route is that if you purchased a Smart Commute 404-7 card, you may ride this route for free. Otherwise, the regular cash fare of $3.00 (and its affiliates) applied.
In the 2009 Annual Service Plan, various service recommendations were proposed such as operating in both directions, operating on more days of the week with more frequent service, expansion of the route north to 16th Avenue or east to Woodbine/Highway 7, and pick-up and drop-off in between stops. However, route 210 was eliminated on December 20, 2008 as it was not performing up to the YRT shuttle standards.
