Route Details

This route provides service on Warden Avenue between St. Clair Avenue East and Major Mackenzie Drive East. There is one southern terminal, which is Warden Station. Northern terminals include Steeles Avenue East for 68A and Major Mackenzie Drive East for 68B.

An extra fare is required for branch 68B north of Steeles Avenue East since it crosses into York Region.

History

September 3, 2000 - The northern loop of branch 68B is changed to serve a new residential area north of 16th Avenue. Buses loop clockwise via 16th Avenue, Village Gate, and Calvert Road. Service is removed from Village Parkway and Carlton Road.

February 18, 2001 - Service on branch 68 to Steeles is extended from its northern loop at Bamburgh Circle to a new off-street loop on the west side of Warden Avenue north of Steeles Avenue East.

May 14, 2002 - Service on the 68B branch is expanded to operate during early evening everyday, early morning on Saturdays and daytime Sundays and holidays.

November 24, 2002 - With the opening of the new Sheppard Subway, new route 268 Warden North replaces service on branch 68B. Branch 68B to 16th Avenue is eliminated and all buses terminate at Steeles Avenue East.

September 5, 2004 - Due to low ridership, the duplication of service on Warden Avenue between Sheppard Avenue East and Steeles Avenue East was not justified. Route 268 is eliminated and branch 68B to 16th Avenue is reinstated.

September 4, 2005 - At the request of York Region Transit, branch 68B to 16th Avenue is extended to Major Mackenzie Drive East looping at the Angus Glen Community Centre. Service is removed from 16th Avenue, Village Gate Drive and Calvert Avenue.

November 23, 2008 - Moved to Eglinton Division.

June 22, 2014 - Due to a system-wide reorganization of route branch designations, branch 68 to Steeles is redesignated 68A.

March 28, 2021 - This route was transferred to the brand new McNicoll Division.

Overnight Service

Overnight service is provided by 324 Victoria Park on Warden Avenue between Sheppard Avenue East and Steeles Avenue East. The rest of the route does not have overnight service, however, the route operates until 1:00 AM every day.
