Davisville Station is a rapid transit station operated by the Toronto Transit Commission in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located at 1900 Yonge Street at the intersection of Chaplin Crescent and Yonge Street.
History
Davisville is one of the original 12 stations on the inaugural opening of the Yonge subway. It was a part of Davisville Yard right since the line's opening, and many trains enter and leave service using the 'third platform' at this station.
A few years after the line's opening, the TTC built their headquarters at Davisville Station, directly above the bus terminal. This required the terminal to be closed for a few months while buses stopped on-street outside the station.
Station description
The main entrance is at the southwest corner of Yonge Street and Chaplin Crescent. Passengers enter through sliding doors and take a sharp U-turn to a flight of stairs and an escalator leading to the concourse and the collector's booth. A glass wall separates the top of the staircase from the bus road. An elevator exists outside the entrance area and leads down to concourse level.
The concourse stretches over-top of the 2 service tracks, and glass walls allow passengers to view the oncoming trains (and to alert them to run for the platform). Escalators for both directions and a set of stairs each lead down to each platform. As well, long corridors to the south of the concourse leads to elevators which provides access to each platform. In the middle of the concourse, above the tracks is a small newspaper stand.
The northbound platform has glassed-in waiting area booths where passengers can wait out of the wind sweeping across Davisville Yard. At the north end of the northbound platform, there is an automatic entrance leading to Davisville Centre. The southbound platform is especially unique in the entire subway system as it acts like a centre platform. The east side is primary one and is used for southbound revenue trains. The west side is used for trains entering or leaving service to/from Davisville Yard. It is also occasionally used for short turns.
The bus terminal is located at street level, above the concourse and directly west from the main entrance. It consists of a centre platform, with buses serving either side. Originally, it was an open-air terminal, but had a roof installed when the TTC built its main headquarters above it. A staircase at the north end leads to the concourse, south of the collector's booth. An elevator is also located near this staircase. Another staircase and passageway at the south end of the bus platform leads to the northbound and southbound platforms.
Davisville's station platform walls were originally clad in English Eggshell (pale green) Vitrolite tiles with blue trim.
