This route services Lansdowne Avenue. It also serves Caledonia Road north of St. Clair Avenue West including Bridgeland Avenue, Orfus Road, and Yorkdale Road. There is one southern terminal, which is Queen Street West. Northern terminals include St. Clair Avenue West for 47A, and Yorkdale Station for 47B and 47C. Branch 47C only operates during rush hours on weekdays.

History
- June 19, 2005 - This route is made part of a 1-year bike rack pilot project.
- November 23, 2008 - Moved to newly-opened Mount Dennis Division.
- June 22, 2014 - Branch 47 has been changed to 47A due to a system-wide reorganization of route branch designations.
- June 21, 2015 - Route is added to the Ten Minute Network. With service increases during the late evening period on Sundays, service between Queen Street West and St Clair Avenue West will operate at intervals of ten minutes or better whenever the subway is open.
- March 28, 2021 - This route was transferred to Wilson upon the opening of the brand new McNicoll Division.
- May 7, 2023 - Branch 47A to St Clair is temporarily extended to Gunns Loop to replace 512 St Clair service, and is redesignated 47A/512.
- September 3, 2023 - Replacement route 47A/512 is eliminated and branch 47A to St. Clair (Earlscourt Loop) is restored.
Overnight Service
Overnight service is not provided, however, the route operates until 1:00 AM every day.
