History
The station design was approved in September 2009, and finishes were approved in 2010. As originally conceived, this station would have been named Sheppard West. In 2010, the TTC decided to name this station as Downsview Park Station after the nearby park, and rename the existing Downsview Station to Sheppard West.[1] The name change was preferred as the new Downsview Park Station would be closer to the actual park than the existing Downsview station.
Downsview Park was one of two stations opened to the public as part of Doors Open 2017.
Station description
The two station buildings are on either side of the CN/GO tracks. A roadway extended from Bakersfield Street will provide vehicle access. The station buildings feature grey limestone and aluminum with fritted glass. Each building has a green roof and is surrounded by landscaped lawns. Upon entering the east building, access to GO platforms and ticket counters are available. Walls feature beige ceramic with grey porcelain enamel accents.
Stairs lead down to the concourse level where, past the fare gates, an elevator and two sets of stair/escalator combinations, one at each end of the concourse, lead down to platform level. Additional stairs are provided for better passenger distribution along the platform. Beige ceramic and grey porcelain enamel are again used on the walls with beige enamel on the columns.
Downsview Park features a centre platform with tracks on either side. Emergency stairs are located at either end. Columns are again clad in beige porcelain enamel.
The artwork, titled "Spin", that will be integrated into Sheppard West is by Panya Clark Espinal. The idea is circular brush strokes integrated into the glazing, terrazzo floor, ceramic walls, and aluminum ceiling that appear unified or disjointed depending on the perspective.
This station does not have a bus terminal, however, passengers can connect to buses at the Sheppard Avenue West/Bakersfield Street bus stops.
