History

ALRV #4235 on route 501.
  • October 19, 2009 to November 21, 2009[1] - Route was split in two in hopes of improving route reliability. The eastern portion ran from Neville Park to Shaw, and the western portion from Long Branch to Parliament. The two sections overlapped for four kilometers between Shaw and Parliament. However the experiment proved a failure, and the route was reverted back to its original form.
  • January 3, 2016 - Route is added to the Ten Minute Network. Streetcar service over the entire route between Long Branch and Neville Park will operate at intervals of ten minutes or better whenever the subway is open.
  • February 1, 2016 - Route is split in two at Humber Loop in order to provide a more reliable service west of Humber Loop and to reduce the amount of short turns.
  • January 3, 2021 - Route partially operated by buses due to construction at the King-Queen-Queensway-Roncesvalles intersection, TTC trackwork, and overhead upgrades. Streetcars operate as far west as McCaul Loop with replacement bus branches 501L and 501P operating to Long Branch and Park Lawn Loops, respectively.
  • April 5, 2021 - Construction commences on the King-Queen-Queensway-Roncesvalles (KQQR) intersection. Bus branches 501L and 501P divert both ways via Dufferin Street and King Street West.
