Glencairn Station is a rapid transit station operated by the Toronto Transit Commission in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located at 785 Glencairn Avenue with platform level located in the centre median of the Allen Road expressway partially spanning the underside of Glencairn Avenue.
Station description
The architect that designed the station was Adamson Associates. [1] The station's design comprised of two entrance buildings on the north and south sides of Glencairn Avenue with escalators that led to an intermediate concourse where the station collector is located. After going through the station collector barrier, an escalator and stairs leads to platform level. In addition, there is an automatic station entrance on the north side of Viewmount Avenue which has stairs leading directly to platform level.
The station has no bus terminal so the connection to 14 Glencairn can be made at the bus stop just outside the Glencairn Avenue main entrance. A transfer is required.
Platform level is situated in the centre median of the Allen Road expressway and there are escalators and stairs inside all 3 entrances that lead to platform level. The centre island platform has an open-air design with concrete pillars and X-beam steel ceiling support pillars along the centre of the platform. Also, there are glass enclosed passenger waiting boxes in the centre of the island platform. The ceiling over the centre platform is a central vaulted glass roof that spans the length of the station allowing natural sunlight into the station. The station once featured a multicoloured stained glass ceiling skylight made by Rita Letendre called "Joy". [2] Unfortunately, it had faded over the years and was replaced with a clear glass skylight at the request of the artist. The platform side walls are concrete with rounded rectangular glass panels running the length of the station.
