Calgary Transit route 83 Parkland is a bus route designed to serve the community of Parkland, and connect passengers to Canyon Meadows LRT Station.
Routing History
June 1, 1981 - Route introduced, replacing Route 102 Blue Arrow South upon the opening of the south leg of the LRT. Trips started at Anderson LRT Station, and would travel east on Willow Park Drive SE, east/south on Bonaventure Drive SE, east on Lake Bonavista Drive SE, south on Acadia Drive SE, east on Canyon Meadows Drive SE, and south on Parkland Blvd SE, terminating at the Parkland Terminal located on Parkland Blvd at Parkvalley Drive SE. Trips to Anderson LRT Station would follow the reverse.
September 5, 1983 - Route revised to serve Lake Bonavista Drive SE west of Bonaventure Drive SE, routing that was previously served by Route 57 Woodbine/Deer Ridge.
October 9, 2001 - Due to the opening of the South LRT extension, the terminus would be revised to Canyon Meadows LRT Station. As such, all routing in Lake Bonavista is discontinued, and served by Route 35 Canyon Meadows / Bonavista instead. Trips would start at Canyon Meadows LRT Station and would travel south on Lake Fraser Drive SE, east on Canyon Meadows Drive SE and south on Parkland Blvd SE, terminating at the Parkland Terminal located on Parkland Blvd at Parkvalley Drive SE. Trips to Canyon Meadows LRT Station would follow the reverse.
Service History
June 1, 1981 - Route operated during peak hours at a 10 minute frequency, during weekday midday, weekday early-evenings and Saturdays during the day at a 20 minute frequency, and weekday late nights, Saturday nights and Sunday at a 30 minute frequency.
October 12, 1982 - Weekday evening, Saturday and Sunday frequency revised to every hour due to budget cuts.
1983/1984 - Weekday evening frequency revised to every 30 minutes.
1986/1987 - Saturday frequency revised to every 30 minutes.
1991/1992 - Saturday day frequency revised to every 45 minutes. Saturday evening frequency revised to every hour.
1993/1994 - Peak hour frequency revised to every 15 minutes. Weekday midday frequency revised to every 20 minutes. Sunday frequency revised to every 45 minutes.
October 9, 2001 - Weekday midday, Saturday day and Sunday day frequency revised to every 30 minutes. Weekday evening, Saturday evening and Sunday evening frequency revised to every 45 minutes. Evening and weekend service revised to operate with community shuttle buses.
September 1, 2003 - Weekday evening frequency revised to every 30 minutes. Saturday evening and Sunday frequency revised to operate every hour.
December 25, 2017 - Peak hour frequency adjusted to every 25 minutes.
April 6, 2020 - Weekday service revised to operate every 30 minutes all day due to COVID-19 service restrictions.
May 25, 2020 - Saturday service revised to operate every hour due to COVID-19 service restrictions.
September 4, 2023 - Weekend service revised to operate every 30 minutes.
