Calgary Transit Max Yellow also known as route 304, is a bus route part of the "MAX" Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. This route connects the southwest of Calgary to downtown, serving a variety of destinations in southwest Calgary including Crowchild Trail SW, Mount Royal University, Rockyview Hospital, 14 Street SW, as well as the communities of Palliser, Oakridge, Cedarbrae, Braeside and Woodbine in SW Calgary.
Current Routing
Towards Woodpark, the MAX Yellow would start eastbound on 5 Avenue at 1 Street SW, and would travel south on 1 Street SW, west on 6 Avenue SW / Bow Trail SW, south on Crowchild Trail SW, southwest on Richard Road SW, east on Mount Royal Gate SW, south on Crowchild Trail SW, east on Glenmore Trail SW, south on 14 Street SW to the 14 Street transitway, west on Southland Drive SW, south on 24 Street SW and finally a loop around a traffic circle at 24 Street and Woodpark Blvd SW to terminate at Woodpark Station.
Towards downtown, the Max Yellow would start at the Woodpark Station, and would travel north on Woodpark Blvd SW, east on Southland Drive SW, north on the 14 Street transitway, east on 75 Avenue SW, west on Glenmore Trail SW, north on Crowchild Trail SW, west on Mount Royal Gate SW, northeast on Richard Road SW, north on Crowchild Trail SW, east on Bow Trail SW / 9 Avenue SW, north on 6 Street SW, and east on 5 Avenue SW, terminating eastbound on 5 Avenue at 1 Street SW
History
November 2010 - Route proposed as the Southwest BRT and would run from downtown Calgary to Woodbine in SW Calgary. The route would begin planning in 2015 once proper funding was allocated.
late-2018 to late-2019 - Construction on the Southwest BRT is ongoing. Work being completed includes transit-only lanes, new pedestrian bridges and green spaces being constructed along Crowchild Trail, Glenmore Trail and 14 Street SW. Also included in the construction is the Lakeview Bus Bypass which allows southbound buses to skip the long lines of traffic at the Crowchild Trail & Glenmore Trail interchange. Additionally, this includes the southwest transitway which was constructed along 14 Street SW between Glenmore Trail and Southland Drive.
December 23, 2019 - Route introduced. Service would be provided exclusively with 40-foot buses, with articulated buses operating on select AM peak hour extras.
April 6, 2020 - Articulated bus service removed. However, articulated buses may be dispatched on the MAX Yellow in case of a bus shortage.
October 2023 - Articulated bus service re-introduced
