Calgary Transit Max Purple also known as route 307, is a bus route part of the "MAX" Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. This route connects the east end of Calgary to downtown, serving a variety of destinations in southeast Calgary including Inglewood (along 9 Avenue SE), 17 Avenue SE and the East Hills Shopping Centre. This route is the first route for Calgary Transit to have a dedicated transitway constructed. The 17 Avenue SE transitway, which was constructed between 16 Street SE and Hubalta Road SE has it's own traffic signals as well as bus stops constructed at major intersections.

Current Routing

Trips to East Hills would start southbound on 1 Street at 7 Avenue SW, and would travel south on 1 Street SW, east on 9 Avenue S, east on the Southeast Transitway, east on 17 Avenue SE, north on 84 Street SE, and west/south on East Hills Square SE. Trips to downtown Calgary would continue south on East Hills Square SE, east on East Hills Blvd SE, south on 84 Street SE, west on 17 Avenue SE, west on teh Southwest Transitway, west on 9 Avenue SE, north on 3 Street SE, west on 6 Avenue S and south on 1 Street SW, terminating southbound on 1 Street at 7 Avenue SW.

History

2010 - Transitway proposed along 17 Avenue SE between 9 Avenue SE and 84 Street SE. In 2015, $96 million was allocated for the construction of the 17 Avenue SE transitway.

2017 to 2018 - Construction on the 17 Avenue SE transitway is ongoing. Work being completed included the bus-only road constructed in the middle of 17 Avenue SE between 28 Street SE and Hubalta Road SE, which also meant the construction of new BRT stations and a revitalization of the surrounding road and pedestrian infrastructure. Additionally, a bus-only bridge would be constructed between 28 Street SE and 9 Avenue SE, which included pedestrian infrastructure.

November 19, 2018 - Route introduced as MAX Purple East Hills / City Centre, replacing Route 305 east of Downtown. This new route operates from downtown Calgary to the East Hills shopping centre at 17 Avenue and 84 Street SE via Inglewood and 17 Avenue SE.

August 30, 2021 - Two trips in the morning rush hour, and two trips in the afternoon rush hour would be extended eastward into the neighbouring town of Chestermere, AB.
