10 Chene is a bus route operated by the Detroit Department of Transportation in Detroit, Michigan, United States.

Route Details

The current routing of route 10.

This route travels out of the Rosa Parks Transit Center in downtown Detroit through east-side neighborhoods and Hamtramck's central business district, terminating at Varjo and Van Dyke Streets.

History

  • April 6, 1952 - Service begins as a Detroit Street Railway route after the Baker streetcar line converts to buses. The Chene bus route takes over the east-side portion of this crosstown streetcar route. Initially, the route operates from Cadillac Square in downtown Detroit to Joseph Campau and Davison Streets via Chene Street and Joseph Campau.
  • 1966 - Service extended along Davison, Mount Elliott and East Nevada Streets to Van Dyke, replacing portions of the newly-discontinued Davison Shuttle route. Night service, however, continued to terminate at Joseph Campau and Davison.
  • July 1, 1974 - Service carried on by DDOT.
  • 1980 - Service rerouted from Chene and I-94 to Joesph Campau and Denton Streets via East Grand Boulevard and Hamtramck Drive due to the neighborhood in between being completely demolished for a General Motors plant.
  • 1989 - Service rerouted via Joseph Campau and East Nevada from Davison and Joseph Campau to Nevada and Van Dyke.
  • 1997 - Evening service to the Bel-Air Shopping Center via Van Dyke and 8 Mile added.
  • 2001 - Downtown terminus moved to Capitol Park after the Cadillac Square Transit Center closes permanently.
  • 2004 - Service to the Bel-Air Shopping Center discontinued.
  • April 23, 2005 - Overnight service discontinued by then-Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
  • 2009 - Downtown terminus moved to the newly-opened Rosa Parks Transit Center.
