Detroit Department of Transportation 1201–1242 are 2011 and 2012 model Gillig Low Floor (G27D102N4) buses; built in Hayward, California; which were delivered between December 9, 2011 and February 12, 2012. 1201 is a 2011 model, while the rest are 2012 models. These were part of the same order as 1243-1246 and are also the second DDOT buses to feature the fleet numbers 1201-1242, which were previously used by 1975 AMG 10240A-6 buses.

This order was first announced as early as 2009 and was originally intended to have 50 total diesel Low Floors, but was cut back to 42. These were purchased using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds granted by President Barack Obama. As these were the first Gilligs in the fleet, the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority displayed unit 450, a Gillig BRT hybrid, at DDOT headquarters on April 22, 2009, nearly three years before this series actually started delivery.[1]
