Detroit Department of Transportation 1001–1050 were 2010 New Flyer Industries D40LF buses; built in Saint Cloud, Minnesota; which began arriving on April 19, 2010.
These buses featured Carrier Transicold RM55 rear mounted HVAC, a fire suppression system, LED interior lighting and Byk-Rak bike racks. They were also the second DDOT buses to feature the fleet numbers 1001-1050, which were previously used by 1975 GMC T6H-5307A buses. They also ended up being the last D40LFs delivered to DDOT as New Flyer had recently discontinued the traditional low floor design the previous year to focus on its restyled design and to prepare for the launch of its Xcelsior line, which DDOT would eventually begin ordering in 2014.
These buses also began the current DDOT practice of assigning the first two digits of the fleet number to the year of manufacture, which was only used once before on 1989 Neoplan USA AN460 buses.
By the end of 2023, all buses from this series were retired, aside from 1015, which was reassigned as a Mobile Outreach Center bus in April 2023.
