A timeline of Detroit Department of Transportation-related events that took place between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2023.

2014

February

  • February 8, 2014 - Saturday service changes take effect:
    • Additional service is added on routes 34, 37, 38, 48 and 53.
  • February 9, 2014 - Sunday service changes take effect:
    • Additional service is added on routes 37, 38 and 53.
  • February 10, 2014 - Weekday service changes take effect:
    • Route 36 is discontinued, replaced by extensions to routes 43 and 49.
    • Service on route 11 east of Woodward Avenue is restored.
    • Additional service is added on routes 14, 16, 17, 21, 25, 34, 37, 38, 48 and 53.

December

  • December 2, 2014 - DDOT sends out additional buses to pick up school students that were left stranded after a massive citywide power outage closes schools.

2015

January

  • January 8, 2015 - The first seven XD40s, ordered in 2014, are placed in service.
  • January 22, 2015 - DDOT sends out additional buses to provide service to downtown offices and the then-ongoing North American International Auto Show after a People Mover train derails.

September

  • September 5, 2015 - Fall service changes take effect:
    • After operating as one single route since 2012, routes 19 and 25 are separated.
    • Additional service is added on routes 21, 34, 49 and 53.
    • A realignment of Rosa Parks Transit Center assignments takes place.

2016

Service returns to 2009 levels, while the number of buses in service at peak hours reaches levels not seen since 1996.

January

  • January 23, 2016 - Winter service changes take effect:
    • Routing changes are made to routes 17, 19, 31, 32, 34 and 45.
    • Additional service is added on routes 16, 17, 18, 23, 25, 27, 32, 34, 41, 45 and 53.
    • 24-hour service is reintroduced on routes 21, 34 and 53.

April

  • April 23, 2016 - Spring service changes take effect:
    • Routes 7 and 10 become interlined on Saturdays.
    • Route 12 is extended south into the Belle Isle State Park as part of a pilot program.
    • Additional service is added on routes 14, 21 and 48.
    • Schedule changes are implemented on routes 7, 12, 14, 18, 30 and 48.

August

  • August 2, 2016 - The homepage of DDOT's website is redesigned to add a bus tracker map that was previously based only at an external website.
