The Chicago Transit Authority, or CTA, is the public transit operator for the City of Chicago, Illinois. It is a division of the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA).
History
- Began operations in 1947 from the merger of the Chicago Rapid Transit Company and the Chicago Surface Lines.
- Acquired Chicago Motor Coach in 1952.

The CTA ran trolley buses until March 25, 1973. All units were originally purchased by Chicago Surface Lines for its Chicago Railways division and were acquired by CTA upon takeover of CSL on October 1, 1947.
