Luminator Technology Group, originally and more commonly known as Luminator, is a manufacturer of lighting systems including destination signs for the transit industry since 1928.[1] They are the leading provider of bus destination signs in North America.

History

In 1925, Albert L. Arenberg founded the New England Mills Company, renamed to Harrison Wholesale Company shortly after. In 1928, Luminator, Inc., was created as a subsidiary of Harrison Wholesale Company. In 1934, Luminator begins producing lighting for transportation vehicles.[1]

In the mid-1970s, Luminator created its first electronic flipdot matrix bus destination sign system.[1]

In July 2012, Levine Leichtman Capital Partners, parent company of Luminator Technology Group at the time, agreed to acquire DRI Corporation, parent company of Mobitec[2][3] and longtime competitor TwinVision.[4] Products would still be made under the TwinVision name and the two companies would not fully merge until 2020.

On April 7, 2014, Levine Leichtman Capital Partners sold Luminator Technology Group to Audax Group.[5][6]

On September 11, 2014, Luminator Technology Group acquired Axion Technologies.[7][8][9]

On August 5, 2015, Luminator Technology Group acquired Gorba.[1][10][11]

On October 20, 2015, Luminator Technology Group acquired BMG MIS.[1][12]

On May 11, 2017, Luminator Technology Group acquired Apollo Video Technology.[1][13]

In 2017, Luminator Technology Group acquired Thommen Searchlight.[1]
