TTC Delays and Disruptions

Recommended Posts

There was a major mechanical incident this morning between Kennedy and Warden that’s led to some emergency track work to take place at 10AM and service will be shut down between Kennedy and Victoria Park. Right now there’s just shuttle buses supplementing service but at 10AM it will be fully shut down

Anyone have details as to what happened? This section was also closed over the weekend for track/signal work

Do you know when will line 2 subway be fully back into service running from Kipling - Kennedy Station?

It was a switch issue on Line 2, according to Stuart Green, via CBC. Back to normal.

Of greater concern though is a sinkhole at Queen and Degrassi, interrupting the 501, 505, and 506 streetcars. With Coxwell/Gerrard dug up, this may be TTC's nightmare scenario, with both Leslie and Russell cut off from the rest of the network. Ironically, there's big 501 gaps between Leslie and Neville Park.

Broadview & Dundas, Streetcar derailment caused by a switch malfunction apparently.

Is that what their vague service alerts calls an "operational problem" now? 😂

505 Dundas: Major delays between Broadview Ave at Queen St East and Dundas St West at Lansdowne Ave while we deal with an operational problem.

I suppose the streetcars have a "problem operating" if they're off the rails, LOL.

There is currently no service at Eglinton Station due to a security incident, with trains bypassing the station.

The most interesting part about this is that replacement buses are operating from Lawrence to Davisville... I don't recall the TTC having done this before!

According to the original announcements, Line 1 trains were turning back at Davisville and Lawrence - which is why shuttle buses are required.

It's rare that in this incident the station was fully closed to both bus and subway service. Usually trains can bypass/operate through if there's an incident elsewhere in the station; or buses can loop on-street and pick up passengers outside.

The train is a crime scene of a stabbing, so nothing can go pass it

Just coming in over the radio, apparently a SRT train has derailed/decoupled north of Ellesmere stations...

Some injuries are being reported.

Car 3001 (trailing car) has decoupled and derailed.

Hopefully the injuries are minor & those affected will make a full recovery.

I'm guessing the cars involved are an automatic write-off, and will potentially increase the likelihood of the line closing sooner due to catastrophic failure, as some have previously predicted.

I believe they are all minor injuries, Toronto Fire didn't need to extract anyone or use any baskets or lifesaving equipment, from what I heard on the TFS radio everyone was able to be walked off all SRT cars including the derailed car without incident.

4 people were transported by EMS as precaution.

Fortunate that nobody was seriously injured, could have been a lot worse. Derailing into the adjacent retaining wall was probably better than either into a ditch (and possibly rolling over) or across the 4th rails into the oncoming track.

It's a little difficult to tell from the photo, but it almost looks like the cars didn't "uncouple"; instead, it almost looks like the coupler from the "near" car was yanked out while the coupler stayed "coupled" to its mate.

Any sort of significant issue like this would typically require a detailed investigation, followed up by a fleet-wide inspection and repairs/retrofits amongst the remaining cars to ensure that the issue would not be able to reoccur. Given the short timeline left of 4 months until the line officially closes, in my opinion it's a strong possibility that the TTC will not bother to reopen the line given the work necessary to ensure its continued safe operation.

That's pretty extreme. They can easily keep it going until November. 10 km/h slow order zone from Kennedy to McCowan. Trains may not pass each other or enter a curve at greater than 5 km/h.

Statement from CEO:

It’s still too early to speculate if the line will be shut down.

Wow he can actually make public statements when there are serious catastrophic incidents?

He isnt completely useless after all who would've thought.
